Don't sweat the jealousy and negativity from a certain few bad apples. Your doing good and your grandpa would be very proud of you. Take the high road ...I know its hard sometimes.
The guy who ruined your thread is blowing up Facebook right now crying that he got banned....again for like the fourth time and trashing UKC.
Hang in there and keep being proud of that year old all grand pedigreed Nt Ch young redbone called Nt.Ch. Outlaw All Grand G-Man that you raised and trained all by yourself!

I know Shane & I can't thank all my friends enough for being behind me, Nov 1st made 3 years that my papaw lost his battle with cancer & for you making Gman a Nitech on that day means a lot to me! I know he's smiling down as he's watching the redbone breed rise!

Great words Shane, my friend. Maybe it isn't so much the dog or young mans thread but more then likely the name the dog carries. I would say that Shane is spot on. Don't let a few bad apples upset you. I miss the post here but like Shane said...seen it on facebook first.

Tony welcome to the wonderful world of redbones! seen it all since my first grand american in 1972 and im 45 years old . ive seen them that wouldnt get out of your light , pee and growl, scratch up a bed sleep under trucks, but the problem is not the redbones, its the ignorant people who hunt them, face barkers, back biters, individuals that are to sorry to take care of there own hounds much less train one, bash other peoples breeding because there dogs not in the pedigree somewhere, ask what world hunt ?, when your hunting against top dogs of any breed in the country no sleep, spending your hard earned money , tearing the hell of your truck and when you finally get the joker were you want him he gets killed in the road, you invite all comers to come hunt feed them provide them a place to stay for free, they eat your food hunt your coons and at the end of the day no matter how good your dogs do they still bash you, LOL, I got some free advice for you, DO IT FOR YOURSELF, the best people in coonhunting are walker friends of mine and ive hunted with a long list of redbone men, your friend Heyward

Hey Tony,

Don't let the turkeys get you down!

Sounds like you and your hound are doing great. I noticed your post after I recognized the name of your hound from Shane Maxey's post on that breeding program he is putting together. Sounds like a man with a plan.

I don't competition hunt. In fact, I don't even really hunt coons. Just cats.

But I like reading what you guys write and I wish you fellas luck in all your endeavors.

Tom

What I have seen

I have seen the jealousy over the years but never let it bother me. I will breed to a dog that I like even if I don't see eye with the owner.

A few other things that I have seen that don't help the breed:

1) People that don't have a clue what it takes to win but they really think they do. Most of these have been in less that 20 cast in their life.
2) People that really don't know or understand dogs. During the 90's, I hunted with several advertised male dogs trying to find something to breed a couple of my personal females to. I seen many people calling silent dogs good lay up dogs.
3)People calling staying gone 15 -30 minutes and going maybe 600 yards, a hard hunting, going deep dog.
4)People calling a silent dog a good strike dog because they got first strike by pitching it or it just opened treed when nothing else was opening.
5) People that think because they can tree a coon and look good in a coon zoo that they can tree one anywhere in the U.S.

That's incorrect, there's several reasons why that there are so many more & it's because how consistent they are about starting, finishing, & winning. Breeders breed the right way, not scared to make out crosses, & cull instead of breeding junk to make a dime. The redbones are going down hill because if your not in a certain pedigree click they won't breed because there jealous. I'm a die hard Outlaw fan but don't think for once I want make a cross if I think it'll turn out!

Numbers

Right now competition coonhunting consist of 2 registries. There is others but the number of dogs hunted in them are a lot less. The way PKC handles the races lets us compare dogs over an entire year. If it is about the numbers, one would have to think that we could take the percentage that represents each breed and that would tell us roughly how many of each breed that we should see in the races at the end of the year. Same for the world hunts. This year the top ten male dogs (all breeds) in the PKC National Race consisted of 8 walker dogs and 2 what kind of dogs. That's right, 8 walkers and 2 Redbones. I wouldn't call myself a big competition hunter. I have made about a dozen Grand Nites in UKC and only have a little over 14,000 lifetime earning in PKC. Crying numbers is just another excuse for losing.

And this year there was a big race between two redbones .....look at years past and see how often a redbone made it in the top ten of pkc.....or even the top 20 or 30 for the year. If we had large numbers of top level redbones....they would be showing up as winners at the top level. Unless you participate at that level like you have Royce....most people will never understand ( or believe) what your saying....but I have seen it and so have a few others who show up with some of the best we have in this breed....
Top level redbones that can win against the best walkers on a consistent basis are rare.....much more so than many might think. There is a reason why so many people choose to hunt a walker over other breeds....and it usually comes down to performance and winning.

IF WE HAD "LARGE NUMBERS" OF TOP LEVEL.

So, do we not have "large numbers" of winners because people don't hunt enough Redbones or because there are not enough winning Redbones to be hunted?
