Lump on dogs throat

I have a 5yr year old Wipeout male. About 2 months ago he developed a tennis ball size lump on his throat. After a couple days it burst bloody puss. Took him to the vet and they claim he had been bitten(which i dont believe) and his neck was infected. After a drain was put in and antibiotics for 14 days, it pretty much went away. Now it's coming back!! Anyone have any idea what this is? Wipeout dogs are famous for Thyroid issues, but not sure if this is his actual problem or not. Other than this huge lump, he's healthy as a horse, no weight loss or gain. Any ideas?

I had a English blue male years ago that had a lump come up on his throat. I took him to the vet and it was a snake bite. They shaved the hair on the area of the lump and you could see the bite marks then. The vet lanced the lump and I had to put peroxide in the cut for a few days and let it drain and that was it. It healed up fine later and no problems.

I just went thru this about a month ago with one of my beagles .within a week it went from marble size to golf ball size .they tried to draw fluid to see if it was a cyst or cancer but couldnt,so she went in for surgery and it ended up being chronic mass ,it had grown into her salivary glands ,lymph nodes, jaw ,chin, and wrapped around her jugular.a stick, thorn, seed or something had got in and caused it to grow instead of turning into cyst

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna bring him back to the vet and see about more antibiotic and re-lancing. Sounds like it may just be a swollen gland from an infection.

need to do an I&D (incision and drainage), then antibiotics and saline/iodine solution injected (w.o needle) into the incision to flush it out several times daily. it needs to heal from inside out. if the incision closes and there is still infection present it will reoccur. had the same thing many yrs ago.
