HTX

It's EZ. After you have the clubs approval, you just schedule it atleast 30 days out on the HTX section of the Coonhound Up Coming Events Board. It will say "Schedule a Hunt".

Couple of tips:

- Make copies of the scorecard and rules. Go to Office Depot and have them print them on "Card Stock" (same stuff used for a Nite Hunt scorecard). Put the Scorecard on the front and rules on the back. I had about 50 made this way, it makes it really nice for the judges and participants to write on and reference. Cost less than $20.

- This is key. HAVE ATLEAST 1 OTHER MEMBER COMMITED TO HELP. You cannt do this on your own. The rule about not letting 2 guys judge each other is a huge thorn in the side of the HTX Hunts.

- Tell every coon hunter you see about your upcoming hunt. And make sure your informed well on the way it works and rules. You'll get lots of questions about it. Promote it every chance you get. I'd try to attend one first if possible.

Once you get it going you'll reap the rewards of your work and have a good time at it. Good luck.

1. Run it HONEST, by the rules. HTX means nothing if corners are cut and rules aren't followed.
2. Get qualified inspectors to show up and make sure everyone understands they might have to judge another dog. You can put a little pressure on the comp. hunters and MOH's in your club to be inspectors since you've helped them put on comp. hunts.
3. Make sure your inspectors that don't comp. hunt understand the rules. Pleasure hunters may be coonhunters but they might have some incorrect scoring ideas that a comp. hunter doesn't think twice about. For example they might know not what to do with dogs that tree in a leafy tree, don't go hunting, quit track, etc.
4.Make sure you keep up on the paperwork and get accurate hunt reports sent in on time.
5. The only real problem I've seen is not knowing how many dogs will show up? I hate to ask club members to show up to inspect and then find they aren't needed. One solution is to find who might be willing to inspect and then just call them if they are needed. The dog they are to inspect can then be routed to their house or meet them somewhere to hunt. Have consideration for the inspectors and hopefully you will always have some willing to help.

Good luck.
