puzzled !

Question about coon. I was wondering if a coons scent diminishes at all this time of year.

Tonite while hunting I seen 2 coon in a field. I cast two dogs on their track less than a minute after seeing them leave the field and go up a tree. Neither dog could smell them after both dogs went within 3 feet of the tree that both coon went up I called them back and tried to put them on the tree just to see if maybe they just missed them but they could not smell them at all. This all took place in less then five minutes of seeing them on the ground !

One of these dogs treed close to 100 coon since the new year treeing 22 straight times without a miss .then April rolls around and I started getting slick trees with him and another young dog has really struggled to get treed. I was getting extremely frustrated with their performance as of late. Just wondering if this was something that is common this time of year ?

Happens a lot more then you'd think. An old timer told me it's hard to drop a dog down on a coon you see cross the road, and I've seen it happen several times. I try to go down the road a bit and turn the hounds back toward the spot where I show the coon. This usually works, but I've had them screw that up too...
