Vicks on female in heat

I've heard several times about guys putting Vicks on female to keep them from smelling. I've never personally tried it. Does anyone have any input on their experience?

I put it on a female I hunted in a RQE once, just to be safe, though she was basically out of heat as it had been 28 days before she first started her heat cycle. Right out of the box 2 males locked on her and chased her around the truck-quickest $30 I ever blew in a hunt!

I've had no real experience but I'll share what I've heard from guys who have.

The problem with Vick's is that, typically, the handler can smell it from a ways away. I know when we put it on my kids for a chest cold it stinks up the whole house. When a handler smells it, they might be inclined to put their male dog close to your female to get him to smell her. Once he gets close he can smell 'through' the Vick's and tell she's in heat.

There are some other products out there that is supposed to mask the scent of a bitch in heat, but a human can't smell it. I'd check on of those out and see what you can find.

I wouldn't try it know my female could get bred to a male at a hunt.

if u use it, put it on their legs or around the area, NEVER put it on the vulva. also a little bit under the nostrils of the male, NOT in the nose. its what ppl use when they perform autopsies to help with any smells.

best and safest thing to do is put the gyp up!!!!!! i meancmon think about it.... is it worth your female getting knocked up by a mut or another hound... look at this nothing in the woods stronger than a skunk rite ? your male get sprayed in the face by a skunk, has this strong odor all over his face in his nose and eyes,,,, but can still distinguish a coon track well enough to run and tree it.... what on gods green earth makes u belive that vicks vapor rub or pine tar will mask a smell that mother nature give a female from a male dogs nose ...

Personally, I think if you are at a hunt and your female smells like vicks you should be wrote up. Rule says bitches that are smelling strong enough to attract males. If your putting vicks on her your saying, my bitch smells strong enough to attract a male but I am willing to do what it takes to get around that rule.

the rule says you will be scratched. Why would you get wrote up for it? In that case you would have to get wrote up for failure to hunt, shining a tree before time starts, calling another dog twice and so on. My question in the original post wasn't anything about any hunt anyways. I have all females and when one comes in heat I get every male dog in the country at my house.
