coyotes

Just a warning and reminder....its that time of year again...

Turned my dog loose last night...he was gone 5-8 minutes I would guess...I was sitting on the tailgate wondering why he didn't strike right there like always and hoped the coon didn't get hit on the road..

All o the sudden it sounded like a heard of deer coming...I shinned my light and hit a blue reflector on the tracking collar and knew it was Duke so I hollared for him...he was running for his life..he literally jumped in my arms and peeked around to check his back trail like a little kid lol..

I had NO idea what happened...then just as I wondered a coyote started barking at him..it barked pretty stready for about a minute..then at least 2 others Yipped and howled and went nuts for a bit...then the barker kept barking..

It went on a solid 3-5 minutes...they were in the 20-25yd range..I thought I heard something..shined the light down the road and one of the yotes ran back into the woods! It was 20yds away and coming toward me on a paved road!!

Be careful out there guys...its that time of year...I've noticed this time of year is the worst..I think they have pups...

Why would they chase my dog??? He never barked....he had to bump into them and they turned on him...it was crazy... I've had dogs come back and the coyotes bark a ways away..but nothing like that...

Sounds to me your dog got to close to the den. Coyotes will get hostile if a dog gets close to the den if they have pups.

Could have...this time of year is by far the worst to me....guessing it is because of them having pups...

Could hear another pack in the distance that fired up when they starting barking at me too...

Things are like fleas anymore...

I had one lite up on me tonight! He couldn't have been more than 50 yrs at first. My dogs were the opposite direction coming back to me when it started. While I was leasing them up he got closer and angrier! Lol. To tell ya the truth it kinda made me nervous. I had to walk his direction to head for the truck. I hollered to let it know what I thought of him and he shut down real quick.

The very next night my dog acted funny 2 out of 3 drops...first and 3rd drop he came back to me...that's not like him...if there ain't a close coon he is going to find one somewhere....first drop he quit a track...3rd he didn't wanna go...I told him to go...he went and came back..I told him to go again and he came back so I took him home...2nd drop he went and treed a coon real nice...

Got home and heard the coyotes in the spots I was at the first and 3rd drop...2nd drop was on the other side of the hill...im guessing he heard them the 1st and 3rd drops...definitely wasn't like him to come back to me...maybe shaken from the night before too...

Since then alls been quiet and he's been looking great...treed a lot of coon..haven't been to a den or a slick..
