Walker Days - Easter

What goofballs scheduled Walker Days to be the same weekend as Easter?

I know there are a bunch of us that won't be going this year. Family 1st.

Easter moves around so it just fell that weekend. Walker Days is always the third weekend in April and it just so happens Easter fell on the same weekend.

In 2015 Easter will be April 5, the same weekend as Purina Nationals.

In 2016, Easter will be March 27 or the same weekend as American Leopard Hound Days.

Of course next year the hunt calendar will shift just a little bit based on the placement of Labor Day weekend but it should be close to what I just posted.

I'm one of the goofballs. When would you like it scheduled the next time Easter falls on the same weekend as Walker Days?

This just goes to show how different we all are. I figured they lucked out having it on Easter weekend. Everything is shutdown around here the Friday before, schools factories, etc. So you can load the family up and spend the weekend at Walker Days without pulling them out of school or work.

I won't be going either but now that we are talking about it. The 1st of May sounds great and somewhere closer in the middle of the United States instead having it almost in Canada.

May 1st is Black & Tan Days, which I believe is also the same weekend every year. The breed associations avoid each other's breed days for several reasons, including the fact that UKC attends both and out of respect, we just don't compete against each other for entries. That aside, I'm not even sure UKC would grant us the date if we asked for it.

I know that it is not the greatest weekend to have Walker Days and I believe in 2014 and one more time from now until 2028 it will land on the Walker Day weekend again. We even announced last year this was going to happen in 2014 and the membership voted to not change the date. I too have family functions on Sunday, I will be leaving about 2 a.m. to head for home so I can hopefully make it home by noon. We understand some will not make it to Walker Days, but hope to see you in 2015 and have a great Easter. Thank you.

I remember the vote, I agree that it should be kept in April. It's nice to be one of the only breed associations that holds it hunt without leaves. But it could have been moved a week or so.

If you remember the vote, you would have remembered that they said April or June was the only times they could get the fair ground.

I do remember the vote, and remember it was stated that 2014 would be the time to try a change if wanted to because Walker Days fell on Easter Weekend. We are sorry, But we do not have any other weekends to go to. I hate it too, but we have to live with it for this year.

IT IS JUST WRONG NOT TO RESPECT GOD AND THE CHRISTIAN FAITH. BUT ALL THE KC'S HAVE HUNTS ON EASTER WEEKEND, WE SHOULD SERVE GOD ALL THE TIME, GOD IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A GOD OF CONVIENCE. WE WANT TO SERVE GOD WHEN WE WANT TO, THAT'S NOT THE WAY IT WORKS. NOW IF YOU DON'T PROFESS TO KNOW JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOR CARRY ON, BUT IF YOU PROFESS TO HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS, YOU NEED TO TAKE A HARD LOOK AT WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT COONHUNT VS JESUS SIGNED REV. DR PRINCE I VOTE JESUS

THANK YOU----UKC---ONE OF THE OTHER KCS DELETED A POST ABOUT EASTER AGAIN THANK YOU FOR LETING BELIEVERS VENT. I RESPECT YOU FOR THAT

Alan and Grant, thanks for your comments. I didn't mean to come across as badmouthing Walker Association, I know that it's a big undertaking to organize an event like Walker Days and I'm not suggesting that you change it for one person's opinion

Thanks guys. I know I'm not the only one. Team Lone Pine won't be there this year.

It's unfortunate, the Pup Extravaganza is one of our favorite hunts and we had 3 that we were planning to enter there and we'd have been hunting at least 7 hounds and 7 handlers, but none of us are coming due to it being Easter weekend.

Maybe in 2019 or whenever it falls on Easter again, it could be moved up or back a week?

next week is walker days,we are getting the rain here this week,so may be we wont have the rain on Thursday night like last year.the forecast for next week is calling for some sun and clouds and no rain Thursday or Friday, may be a little shower Saturday morning.i no there are a lot of comments about it being Easter weekend, this doesn't mean people don't believe in God just because we are having a hunt that weekend. If you are not able to make it this year I want to wish you and your family a Happy Easter and hope to see you next year.and the ones that come ill see you next Thursday.

Thank you from the DeKalb county coon hunters!

I wish everybody a good hunt who is going and I hope it dont rain up there. That was the most miserable hunt I've ever been to in my life.
