I don't see where it matters. ALL dog breeds go back to a wolf, if you go back far enough. B&T, Walker and the other coonhound breeds have an interwoven history. The lines between breeds weren't nearly so distinct, back then. Papers didn't mean that much and if a guy needed a registered dog, it wasn't such a big deal to just apply papers from some other dog. Most, if not all, of the foundation of the B&T breed comes through dogs that were dirty papered. If there are any left that weren't dirty papered, then their off breeding is still there, its just further back.
There is spotted dog breeding in the B&T breed history, but there is also black and tan dogs in the walker breed history. I can find walkers today that have little pumpkin seeds above their eyes and blanket backs. Tennessee Lead, a black and tan colored dog, was a foundation sire of the running walkers, who preceded the treeing walkers.
