UKC Performance Program - Town Hall

Just want opinons on this? What are the ongoing benefits to this program. Do you see the value on paying to have your dog or puppies performanced? Or Stud dog nominated? Who here has gotten a significant performance payout? Would like to hear from breeders who have had their puppies do a lot of winning.

As a breeder have you gotten ahead of the initial investment or broke even on the performance program?

I think these are fair questions for debate!

Thanks John Dell

costs

It costs just about as much to nominate a litter as it does to worm them all once. I never got a check back from any of the wormer manufacturers.
To put your male in the program it costs about the same as 1 stud fee. so sell one pup or charge the 1st guy who wants his female bred and you have your money back.
The program pays for it's self and I think it's one of the best things UKC has offered us. I hope they keep it going.
I never try to figure out if I'm getting a check from the program , I love the surprise when it comes. Last year I bought a brand new truck with it LOL.

I like the program, but don't think I'll get rich, maybe some entry fees paid and/ or some gas money--
Kelly get out of that sand box & John do you want a rubber ducky to go with that boat?---LOL

Good program

I owned a performance sire for a couple years and have performanced a couple litters. Hunted a performance dog too. I like the program. I have not made much money, but have got my money back from it so far.
Truth is, I would not want to buy a pup and haul it around, paying entry fees and not get some of that money back. So I will performance my litters for that reason alone.
I think the program is here to stay.

I totally think its worth it, John. I got a check for about $1,000 one year and even this year should be getting around $300. I'm not complaining. I've made more then I've put in.

If you have a stud that can produce hunt winners, then you will get your money back. If your stud can't/doesn't reproduce, then you are wasting your money. The Performance Program is more for the hunters/handlers and they don't want a pup that is not Performanced. If your pups aren't Performanced, then you will have a hard time giving them away. So no one with a good female is going to breed her to a stud that is not performanced. This program is definately here to stay.
