For the last several days several of us have been bickering and complaining back and forth about differences in opinion and this is getting us no where. Why don't we as English breeders, hunters and brothers stop this nonsense before it gets out of hand. I will start by telling the coonhound world my personal influences and we'll go from there. If you want to recognize someone for their acheivements or for the impact they have had on your life then this is the time to do that. Also, if someone gave you a dog or went above and beyond the call of duty to get you into the sport of coonhunting or did something to keep you in the sport then please share. We need to put our differences aside and re-group. There has never been a time that the English hound has been so popular and has won so much. Let's start working together to keep it that way.

I got started in the sport because of a man by the name of Ward Hughett, Ward gave me my first good hound (walker) and taught me about dogs. Dean Thompson is a great friend of mine and has taught me several things about dogs and a whole lot about what our dogs go back to, he is top notch. Paul Barton and Alan Barton have both been better to me then a lot of my family has been, I consider them family. My cousin Bruce Hall has taught me a whole lot about dogs and how to break them from this or that. Bob Moore is also a great friend and he I both are on the same page when it comes to what we are trying to create in a coonhound.

Here's a list of breeders and winners that I have always had the upmost admiration for and have tried in one way or another to watch and learn from what they do.

started coon hunting when I was jr in high school good friend of mine steve barnes started dragging me along been hooked every since. don't have to many hunting buddys most of the time just me and my three daughters. come to think of it they are my three best buddys they all just got a pup of there own 1 redbone from harold hoffmeister.1 mountain cur from Donnie clark 1 English pup I pick up in a couple of weeks from Leroy penny. going to have my hands full trying to get these girls pups started. you know kids they all want something different. well the good Lord has Blest me with some little coon hunters just hope now these hounds turn out for them. 1st started out at the age of 6 with my uncle's Ron Cundiff & Charles Cundiff which back then was redbones & walkers. When i got into my teens I got my 1st walker dog from Barry Cochran. Hunted for many years with Monty Gussy, Barry Cochran, & Ron Cundiff in the ukc hunts. My best dogs I owned were a English RedTick Doc Holliday & a Black & Tan Tree Blasting Jack which I PKC & UKC hunted my last 6 years befor quitting. Now 15+ years later Im starting fresh. Talking to Randy Hall he got me back into this sport. I have gotten back into it in a hurry with all new lights for me & my 6 year old son, new tracker & shocking unit for when I get a dog going, & of course a pup for me & my son to get started fresh both English. My son got a Female out of Rocker & Wilma. Me I got a male out of Maistreet Jack & Roxie. Now I just need the weather to straighten out so I can start to train my 7 & 5 month old pups with my son. Even with the bad weather my 6 year old son goes out at least 3X's a week to tease his pup with a small coon hide I tied to a rope for him. Pretty fun watching him & his pup play tug of war. We both cant wait for the weather to warm up & actually get back into the woods. So I thank those that got me into this sport the 1st time & those helping me out the 2nd time. I also Thank MR.Moore for his support & say GO ROCKER

I'm the English guy I am today because of my dad. My dad was hunting English dog before I was a twinkle in his eye. He started taking me and my brother hunting when we were hardly out of diapers. I have laid down and fell asleep many times listening to dogs run. Here is my brother and I with NTCH Penny's KY Cotton, I believe I was 6 in this picture. I grew up with ole Cotton. Many coon hunters in IL, IN, MO & KY will probably remember Ole Cotton. This is the dog that sealed the deal for me. I've hunted English ever since.

I aint no top breeder or anything of that such, but I do enjoy coonhuntin as well as anybody else. I started at the age of 10 years old with my grandpa the late johnny stewart this man was my coonhunting idol. I followed him and his dogs through the mountains of Tennessee and the swamps of Alabama chasin them coons. it started out fun but I soon found out that it was a lot of work. We didn't always get a coon but we sure tried. My pawpaw is gone up to heaven now and I now get to share the love of coonhuntin with my 2 boys that are 5 and 9 years of age,and some great friends I have met along the way. I thank my pawpaw for getting me involved in coonhunting the way he did because I feel like it kept me as a teenager out of trouble that bored kids get into now days. With all the hard feelings that have been aired out on dogs
for sale web sight I was wondering how we'll ever get along. I realize that thngs happen and only the parties directly involved
know whats really going on.
Everyone by now should know how important integrity,honesty, your reputation and your word really is and
if you live by it you'll get the respect you deserve.Thank you for trying to steer everyone on a new path.
On that note : My Great Uncle got me started into coon hunting
when I was 14.Gave me 2 redbones to get me started, they were
not the best dogs but good enough to get me into the sport. I believe there is nothing like owning your first dog.I truly believe
that a dog that hunts for you, a working dog gives you a special attachment that nobody can really define.
When I finally got a job and saved up my money I bought a grade english out of Ok. He was a real coondog and the money from the coon hides I sold was how I could afford Christmas gifts, for my kids,money was tight when you start a family.I'd have to use the family car to hunt with couldn't afford a truck.Thats the point where I went English and never looked back.I'll always
remember my Uncle with loving affection for starting my love of coon hunting and the dogs I run behind.

Boys i just and Old Country Boy but my dad and uncle joe taught me how too train dogs , But The Masters ED BATES and Eugene Boyd taught me how too win ,
what kind of dog it took and the hard work you put in too it ,their key words were
hunt and hunt some more !!!

Glad to see Yall back on the same page. My dad got me started in to coon hunting 30 years ago I quit one Tim for 10 years to chase women.lol bit I'm chasing English dogs now. Got one straight off uptight spike and put a first place on him Saturday night.

MY UNCLE JOE BUTLER STARTED ME HUNTING. I WAS BORN IN THE CITY. HE MOVED TO CLEVELAND OHIO FROM MISSISSIPPI. HE BOUGHT HIS HUNTING DOGS. THEY WERE COMBINATION DOGS. WE HUNTED RABBITS AND COONS WITH THE SAME DOGS. MY DOGS BECAME MY FRIENDS. KEPT ME AWAY FROM THE NOT SO NICE KIDS.


SAM ARTIS INTRODUCED ME TO REGISTERED DOGS AND THE NIGHT HUNTS. HE TOOK ME TO A NIGHT HUNT AND LET ME HUNT A DOG. WE WERE THE ONLY TWO PEOPLE OF COLOR AT THE HUNT.
I DREW OUT IN A CAST AND WAS THE ONLY KID IN THE CAST. THERE WERE THREE VERY BIG WHITE GUYS IN THE CAST AND THEY SAID TO SAM YOU GO ON AND HUNT YOUR CAST, WE WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIM.

MY DOG WAS TREEING AND ONE OF THEM SAID RICHARD,I THINK YOU SHOULD TREE YOUR DOG. I DID. I WON THE CAST AND A SECOND PLACE TROPHY. I WAS THINKING ABOUT THOSE GUYS AFTER I GREW UP AND IT DAWN ON ME THEY HAD LET ME WIN. I WAS MORE IMPORTANT TO THOSE MEN THAN THEM WINNING A CAST. My all time favorite hunter and mentor is my Daddy ( Gerald James ) . He first taught me what a coon dog was and how to train pups. Times was really hard back then and we couldn't afford to buy good dogs so he just hunted the hair off pups and made good uns. Afterwards he bred and raised a few litters to have more good stuff coming on to hunt. Daddy was the hardest hunter I ever met. He had hard jobs but still would hunt most every night. Many times he came in and would just leave that old truck running while he put the dogs up grabbed a cup of coffee and headed to work. He had a real good line of English dogs which is where my love for them came from. Most folks we hunted with had trashy dogs you had to try to run down from road to road. Daddy's dogs were always born pretty much trash free and loved a coon. Unlike a lot of our dogs today, his would take tracks as they came to em and could handle the roughest of rough track. When they treed they had coon. Daddy never had one that was chop mouth track dogs and they wasn't hard fast tree dogs like we have now. His were big bawl mouth track dogs and on the tree if they hit 70 barks a minute I would be surprised on some. As our family grew and times got harder there was less money around to feed dogs. We didn't have much but didn't know a life much different other than some luxuries like a indoor bathroom and such that we sure wanted. The last of his hounds left us in around 1969 to 71. A man from Indiana bought him for $1200.00 when he wasn't much over a year old. Daddy sold him to provide for us brats that at that time didn't understand life's struggles. He was gonna use part of the money to buy us our first air conditioner. He loved that hound and we all knew it. I can still see my mama standing at the window crying saying I want so bad to go out there and give that man his money back so Gerald can keep that ole dog. Well ole King went on to win several hunts for that man and was winning the little world hunt for him one year and as King hit another tree and the gentlemen called out tree King, he fell dead of a heart attack. I wish I could recall his name for sure but it was something like Bernard Hole maybe. But he would be another man I admired for recognizing a good hound and placing him in competition. Daddy kept up with his wins and such which helped ease his heartache of selling King and the air conditioner he bought with the money was probably the best one ever built it cooled that old house for twenty three years before it played out. I know this was long but my point is this. Love your hounds but love your family more. Be a provider if it means selling that prize hound . Be a honest man in life and treat others the way you would want someone to treat your mom and dad. That describes my mentor and all time favorite coon hunter, my Daddy.
