Well the old girl passed away today. Shannon called me this morning as he head her at the vet. Her kidneys had shut down and they had to put her down. She was just shy of 10 years old.
We had alot of good hunts with the Pen Pen. She trainer her share of pups and young boys as well. She was a coondog. When you turned her loose she was going to get treed somewhere.
She was a fun competition dog too. Andy won with her down at Southern Days one year and just missed being opposite sex winner.
Here are some pictures to remember her by. I am sure Mike and Buck will have more. Notice her tree style. Up on the tree and most often would have one back foot up on the tree.

I sure hated to hear about this when Andy told me. Penny was the first redbone "coondog" that I ever hunted with close to 7 years ago.

I had the pleasure of seeing her do some fantastic work when she was younger. One of my fondest memory of her came one of the first hunts I ever went on with her and Brayden. She took a cold track away from the walkers I was hunting at the time and drifted it about 500 yards across the hillside and treed in the exact same den tree that we treed in the last time we hunted together. That time though three coons were sitting outside. The other dogs never left the main hollow they struck in. I remember thinking, what in the world is she running over in that direction?? She put on a show that night!

She was loud enough to hear treed but she just quiet enough to keep from drawing the other dogs in. I don't know how many times I went to her when she was split by herself. She was a nice one.

The good ones pass much too early.

Had the chance to spectate on a youth cast at Redbone days in Holmesville a few years ago. One of Jason's sons was handling Penny. She done a good job that night.

Penny was more of a hunter than a reproducer. Her thing was in the woods. She did have a few pups but I am not sure where they all went. Ron Swann did have a full sister to Penny from a different litter, Bennett Hills Lil Red Zoe. There is also a young dog from Penny who is in SW Va that I sold this fall. Reports are that they are pleased with her progress.
Lots of great memories as you can see in the pictures.
