Bottle feeding pups ????

they are 3 weeks old and doing great.
they are just starting to lick around on puppy chow "soup".
id sure like to switch them from the expensive puppy milk replacer to something a bit more affordable.
any tips ??

Esbilac makes a milk replacer that's cheaper for pups 2 weeks and older. We just start putting some esbilac in the blender with water and good puppy food.

For my last litter I bought a bag of powder at TSC made by Manna Pro, it's a colostrum supplement. 1lb bag was like $10, it should last you til their on hard feed alone. My pups were fat and slick.

Throw a handful of puppy feed, a handful of baby cereal, and some milk in an old blender, at 3 weeks they should do fine.

Mix water, cottage cheese and puppy chow. Use as much water to make it as soft as you like. Eventually ween them to just puppy chow and cottage cheese.

I started my pups with this at 3 weeks.

I'll give an AMEN on Goats Milk. Had a gyp die under the knife during a C-Section several years back & raised 8 pups on fresh goats milk. Those little buggers thrived on that stuff.

John's suggestion on throwing milk/food in the blender works great too. I would just throw the food in the blender & then mix the milk in with it. Regardless of how you mix it, it makes a real nice paste for the little buggers to throw down on.

At only 3 weeks I would still give a couple bottles a day & mix a mash morning noon & night if they don't have a momma to nurse on ...the best puppy feed I've found is the Victor puppy (red bag) grain free ,corn free & gluten free. You can buy big bags of the goats milk replacer @ your local feed store if you can't get your hands on fresh . It's to expensive @ the grocery store for no more than you get.

I use Pedigree puppy food in the can. You can mix it with a little goats milk to make it soupy, but shouldn't need to, only .88 cents a can. Once they start eating it good you won't have to give them a bottle, just some water after that. Once their back teeth come threw I start them on Puppy Chow, the kind that has 2 hard and 2 chew pieces in it. Work every time for me.

Thanks everyone.
they will be 4 weeks old Thursday and we have all 5 eating the puppy chow mash pretty well and they still get a bottle but not as often and we dilute it down a bit more each time. They are so fat they cant hardly walk, they just roll.
Their mother died shortly after birth and I forgot what a job it was to raise pups without mom.
