Before choosing the 2014 site, UKC should do this.

I wish UKC would prepare a simple survey question to be mailed to each of the Final 100 World Hunt owners asking them just one simple question.
Where would you like to see the next world hunt?
Their answer could be a region of the country, a state, a city or even a specific club. And yes, you would be bound to get a wide variation in answers but I have a feeling you could get a purty good general consensus for where these guys would like to travel for the next Finals.
Ask that question on here and most of the answers will come from those who won't be there, many who have no intention of ever even trying to get there.
Ask the guys who are going!

A better idea would be to name a top three for a better feel of what the hunters want. The reason is because each hunter is going to pick an area that is close to them as their first choice but three choices will get a better idea concerning location.

In football, when they choose the winner of the Heisman Trophy, each voter has to pick a top three and then all the votes are tabulated.

Jim why only the 100 that made it to the finals this year? Why not to everyone that showed up and hunted in the zones? We didn't make it out of the zones but if I had of I would've been in KY.

Uh.......for the purpose of putting the Finals at a location that would be favored by the guys and gals who actually go to the Finals.

Just wondering if this would work out , some zones advanced 6 dogs on the low end and on the high end zones advance 20 dogs, just depends on what part of the country you live in, wouldn't the high end zones control the location in the survey?, I do think its a good idea but the numbers could be stacked to favor the biggest zones IMO

The reason I suggested the top 100 is because I know how tight fisted UKC is and I figured they would be far more willing to pay for 100 mailings than 600 or 700. But if they would want to ask everyone that entered the World Hunt, great!

Nope! It's the dogs that get to the Finals, not the statistics. That has been proven every time a Walker DOESN'T win a major event.

Great! That way would be fine too.

It seems the way they do it now places all the emphasis on moving it around to give many different areas of the country a chance to host, apparently for the main purpose of equalizing travel distances to at least some extent. But I have always believed that Final 100 would go to China if that's where they held it. My guess is that quality hunting would far out weight travel distance as the main criteria for choosing a location IF you asked that top 100. But if the majority prioritize travel distance, so be it. At least we'd know what those guys want.

or should it be where there is a lot more coon? what was wrong where it was held this year? it did take a coon dog to win and you couldnt have asked for a more exciting final cast.

How about this..........The World Hunt Winner each year gets to pick the State for the next years final.

Or the Finals is held in the World Hunt Winners home state the following year.

I guess for me, it is kinda the benefit of winning the World Hunt.

I personaly would like to see it where if you win the World Hunt, the following year it is held in the World Hunt Winners state.

Instead of folks complaining about where UKC holds it each year, get out, get qualified, win the World Hunt and then have it held in your own state. You don't like where it is going to be held, now you have a chance to do something about it.

Exciting final cast?If I remember right it took 1 hour and 50 mins for them to see one coon.Thats pretty lame and I don't think it was because of the dog power.I think location I key to a good hunt then if conditions are bad that's out of our hands.jmo

maybe "key to a good hunt then if conditions are bad that's out of our hands " could have been the problem? I just dont thik if you have a place where there is an over abundance of coon, yes the scores look good, but if your hunting in a thin coon population the better dog"s will out perform the hot nosed tree dog, I always thought the big hunts like the UKC World should be held when the leaves are off the tree's as well, JMO

I think it's good to have in thin coon population areas at least occasionally. I read the play by play and I thought it was good. I especially liked all the nay sayers calling the John dog a me too dog but didn't see any of them man up and congratulate his owner/handler when he pulled it out.

I don't think a lot of people realize that just bc a dog runs the same track another dog is running and they tree the same coon doesn't make it a me too dog.

The logistics of putting on the big hunts has to be an ever increaseing nightmare for the guys at UKC.
Finding a host club that can provide the facilities required along with good safe hunting and enough qualified people to put alot of dogs in the woods has to be a challenge, Add to that an area that can provide lodgeing for a bunch of stinky hunters and their dogs and the list of places probably gets pretty short.
The southern guys seem to think thin coon is a better test and those of us from the north think a good coon population reduces the luck factor.
Im sure that Jim is right when he says the 105 will be there no matter where they have to drive but The zones is probably where the $ is for UKC. and lots of hunters wont attend the zones if they are looking at a couple thousand mile trip to the finals. I would think UKC. could stick a pin in the map that would be within 5 or 6 hundred miles of the vast majority of its members that are active hunters. From a business perspective thats gotta be the smart move.

As already stated, it shows a dog that will work harder imo.. Its better to become Champ in few coons then where you tree every 5 mins cause theres 25 coon an acre, I dont think it should be made easy, however a little checking the MOON phase and not holding it on Harvest Moon would have been better JMO and it dont count

People are already complaining about how many dogs minus out, no plus points or tree off game. now put them in thin coon and see what will happen.

I know that UKC will never follow anything that $kc does but look at World hunt and fall SS, several entries each night and multiple rounds each night. There is never a shortage of guides, coons or hunting places. Same place for several years and how long has sping hunt been in Sullivan,IN.

Not saying they are better but staying in the same place works
