shakethevine...
When this story broke, it made headlines here. It is the CEO's intention to pay the fine and drop insurance on their employees last I heard.
I have knowledge of these issues because I am in charge of a department in another Hospital.
I trained for 40 hours with a consultation firm from Georgia to teach the Hospital staff how to keep HCAHPS scores up so that we can earn back Medicare dollars.
I wish that the report was better...it is not. The affordable Care Act is going to be a major driver of the economy.
The new normal will be PRN positions that cannot work over 28 hours in a pay period for all non essential personel (oxymoron). There has been discussion that our current employee Insurance policies will be subject to tax based off of what the Hospital contributes...it will be treated as income for the employee...driving up the employee cost to buy the insurance.
I am well versed in the fines, fees and penalties that are coming.
The President has delayed the employer mandate because of unintended consequences to employers, but not the individual mandate...key deadlines for exchanges have been missed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services...and Insurances companies are dropping out of the exchanges at a rapid rate because they cannot afford to reduce their premiums for care as dictated by the Secretary.
We currently will loose 8 million dollars in re-imbursement that we will have to earn back through our patient satisfaction scores.
These score are based on random sampling of patients. Their choices will be to answer that we performed actions "Always"- "Usually" - "Sometimes" - or " Never".
We have to receive Patient feedback that is answered "Always" on the questions submitted or we cannot earn the money withheld on all surveys submitted.
We are not permitted to use PRN employees more than 28 hours per pay period. If we do, the Hospital has to provide coverage for them the same as any full time employee.
