All Night Kennels

Let me say I have never met Kevin Shirley. We are friends of friends. I always got a full report on Kevin when hunting with Butch Roeder. This goes back to All Night Albert. You would have to be Kevin to understand what I just said. Butch was hunting a Dual Grand named Goldie. I have watched Kevin grow in his abilities as breeder/trainer/handler. Kevin was always up front honest. Kevin has worked hard for what he has in his kennel. I can count on one hand the breeders I would buy a dog from over the phone. I have been with All Night hounds under coons. I like them. If Kevin would answer 10 or 12 questions for me over the phone and those answers suited me, I would purchase the dog sight unseen. Kevin has bred some of the best. There you go..........my two cents!

KEN Hughs:

Ken (AKA:KRH),is the orignator of this thread. I used to work with Ken at International Harvester in Louisville Ky.. He has always been
a honest, and truthfull man , and we have hunted some good hounds together during that peroid of time. I did not recognize the initials/numbers on his post, but he tells me that, he has been cut off from replying to this thread. I can see no harm, or foul, in any of these posts, that would warrant intervention from UKC. So if Allen G., or any other administrator could reply here, or to Ken Hughs personally, to try to straighten this matter out for all concerned, we would greatly appreciate it. Might even be a technical error, on Ken`s computer. He was just trying to be a good testimony, for a friend. Somehow, he says that he is cut off, and can`t respond. on this thread. Thanks, in advance.

I am back online Butch. It was not UKC fault. It was my own fault. It was good talking with you again. I just wish I could relive some of those hounds. I would add that I hunted with Rye since was two up until he was six years. A better wood dog never lived. Wasn't he born out of Midge?]

Hey Ken,

I`m so glad that you figured out the problem with your computer. So, it`s not necessary for any concern, or reply, from UKC. Sorry for any inconveinence. Yes, ol` Rye was out of "Midge", and was an extra hard, stay put TREEDOG.

Ken, if you are ever in this part of the country, stop in for a visit, or hunt. Like I said on the phone, Kevin is not involved with the hounds, as much as he was in the past. I hope he makes a "come back", soon. There is not a harder hunter, or a more honest one anywhere. Thanks for your confidence in him. Your first post on this thread was right on.

Butch I watched three good men from LaGrange coon club try to count the Rye dog. He double and tripple barked until they scratched their heads and add the three numbers to gether to get an average and said that is what Rye barked as best any man could tell. LOL A dog would have to have two heads to do better. We had him to tree separate form the pups we were training and we went to him an hour later and he was still clocking it just as he had just located. About those pups, it was a cross you made from Max Hunters old Timber Chopper line and some female down in the state. Since I had bought the Chopper pup I checked the litter. One was killed on the road and the other seven barked up from a very young age. This was then and now the most complete litter of pups I have ever been connected with. This litter produced Chopper, Topper, Liz. Find me a truck load of these when you have time........LOL I sure wish I had some information on the background of that female. She was on Choppers papers but somehow I just can't recall.

Ken.

You can add two more to that litter. A bob tail gyp,(due to hunting accident), I can`t remember her name. Robert Farmer sold her to Mark Evans in Ind.. Also, Haskle Cox had a male, ol` Buck, that he says, to this day is the best, and most natural coon dog, he ever owned.

Butch the guy Robert Farmer is where you took me to buy Chopper from him. Is he still doing well? He just might be one of the best at starting these pups. When we brought Chopper home from Mr Farmers' place. Me and Sparky took him an Rye to see if the pup would hunt and tree. He was eight months old. We were on Little Ky River (as usual) Rye struck first then the pup. They had different coons. Rye went up to river and Chopper pealed off and treed. I went to Chopper on a slick and moved him. A short distance and he treed again. By this time Rye had his coon. Sparky went to Rye. Chopper had another slick. I moved him around the tree again and the third time was charm. He got under the coon. Of course you know I rolled it out to him. Rye was not going to pull. Well a divorce put an end to one of the best young dogs I had ever owned. I never did see the pup slick again. He was one when I had to sell him. Butch of all those pups Chopper had the nose. He was treeing layups and doing a fair job before he was one.

I finally remembered the name of that female, that Robert Farmer sold to Mark Evans. It was "Polly".

ShemKemper, I am really happy for you. Sound extra nice. Could you just list the sire and dam of the Farmer's Polly? How old is your female and how close was this Buster x Polly cross? Sure sounds extra nice. The cross that Butch and I were talking about were great water dogs.

You need to check those papers again. Buster II and Farmers Polly have been gone many years ago.

ShemKember I came back to edit this statement I made. I checked the other posts and it seems I was wrong. You could very easy have a Buster II female. The Farmers Polly that we had in mind could not be 43 years of age. It is also possible that Mr. Robert Farmer could have named another gyp Polly which could be very easily the mother to your dog. Thanks for the effort, and I am sorry for my own mistake.
