If you win %25 of your casts that is average a real good dog and handler combo will win more than %50

Im a sorry handler but have been in 6 hunts and won 3 of my casts.Lost 2 due to lack of experience on my part and 1 was a dead cast.So that's 50%.Not real proud of that but you asked.

i quit comp coonhunting a few years ago due to cheating arguing and mean dogs.but i run ukc beagles and when i was campaining my grhbch grch 2008 national ch 09 opp sex wrld ch white river bad banana during the 5 years i ran her i won 43 of 47 casts with her.alot of it was luck and most of it was she was tough anywhere u put her.but u will more than likely lose more than u win but u will enjoy ur self so much more if u go and enjoy urself meet alot of great ppl and look over the bad ones, and if u win super and if u beat beat by a better dog or just caught a bad break u will really love the hunts alot more!

If your winning 80% you ain't going to that many or you aren't hunting against good competition. The nicest dogs in the country are doing extremely well if they win over 60%. I think you may be lying to yourself if you have won 80/100 casts over any period of time.

Stump - You should know by now that if they ain't doing it , it can't be done.
That's why we have so many sorry dogs out there. People just can't believe that their dogs aren't breeding material , so they just keep breeding them.

Stumpgrinder .. that's good stuff , no doubt .. and don't take this wrong or as a slight .. but how many of those casts did you judge and /or guide ?

For anyone .. what would happen to that % if you were traveling out of state and not guiding or judging ...

With every sport a professional should have and keep sats. There are percentage numbers from 0 to 100. So it is possible for anyone to be within any of those numbers.

Its this simple. Winners win more than they lose. Losers lose more than they win.

These numbers are for your self to keep up with in order to coach and guide your self. Pro caliber coachs keep a higher percentage of win to lose ratio than a college caliber and a high school caliber coach.

It is like this registered cast are high school caliber, NtCh cast are college level, Purina, PKC type money hunts are Pro caliber.

If you cant win 5 pro type cast in a row, 5 times in one year. Than what is your odds in winning the world hunt?

If you can win %80 without listening to the other dogs in the cast I would call that some exceptional handling skills congratulations on your success and good luck to you in the future

Why would you have to lsten (pay attention) to the other dogs?
I know you can't help but hear them , but I wouldn't be worried about what they're doing. I'd be worried about what my own dog is doing.

I have better luck when I pay attention to every bark that's made it helps me keep up with the score mostly I try to keep up with everybody's score in my head and it helps me to listen to all of them this is just what works for me another method may be just as good or better

My guess is the very best handlers in the world know their dog so well they almost know what it's going to do before it does it but also pay close attention to the other dogs and always know what the scores are. They didn't get to the top of their game and consistently have a good dog by accident.

im gonna have to agree with ya on this one some of the best dogs ive ever hunted with in hunts were the ones that guys knew just what they were doing at all times and that is how i am with my dog it makes you and your dog a very hard to beat team knowing just what they are gonna do next is the key

I am afraid that if I posted that it would reflect badly on my son's dog, and she doesn't really deserve it.

One year I think I hunted 10 casts and I won 8 out of those 10 casts. I usually hunt about 6 hunts a year I usually win 4 out of the 6.

82% wow. If thats the case you should win the world. Especially in that many hunts. That is pretty good when you consider getting the breaks like finding your coon instead of a den, drawing buddies that flat cheat ya, dog getting out of the pocket, me too dogs that get a part of everyones tree. Ive had some good runs where I won 10 or 12 out of 15 but then Ill lose 4 or 5 in a row. Sometimes Im beat by better dogs, sometimes I make a mistakes, and sometimes my dog just has a bad night. If you keep hunting your dog and hit 82% over the next year then you truly have something special or your competition is crap. Whats this dogs name? He should be leading some races.
