Zanfel

Its very expensive, but a little dab will do you. Pharmacy might try to sell you something else similar, but I think the Zanfel must keep out a secret ingridient or something, the other stuff does not work. My son gets this all the time, and went in for a steroid shot, felt better immediately. Just throwing ideas to you. Hope this helps you.

Wife battles this all the time from her horse. Once she gets it she uses Techno. She gets it at Walgreens. It removes the oil. To prevent it she uses Ivy block. Also at Walgreens.
She'a also had to get the steroid shot. If you get it, don't drink any beer. It'll make you loopy as all hell. LOL But I have to admit. I did enjoy the show...

poison oak

Jewelweed you can get it at health food stores.I get eat alive by this stuff, this is the only thing that I have found that helps. You can get it in a soap, salve or spray for the rash I like the spray. If I know that I'm going to be working in poison oak I shower that morning with the soap. This stuff really works for me.

If you are sensitive, the prescription prednisone works best, but any over-the-counter cortisone cream will help some. So will taking an over-the-counter antihistamine like benadryl.
Doctors will tell you it can't spread, but if you are sensitive, it can. I had one case that kept spreading for months. The oils remain inside the blisters, and when the blisters pop, the fluid will spread it, especially in hot sticky weather that makes you sweat. That's why the bleach others have suggested helps--it pops the blisters and cuts the oil. You have to rinse off afterwards, though.
The best thing is to prevent it. Putting on anything greasy like cold cream or vaseline on exposed skin will prevent the oils from getting to your skin. Then you have to shower after hunting and use a lot of soap.
My hounds sleep in the bed with my husband and me, and we've both gotten it from them. Not fun.

A good preventive practice for poison ivy is shower with dawn dish soap after hunting. It gets rid of the oil in the ivy! Knock on wood I haven't had it all this year.

I'm real sensitive to poison ivy. It seems to travel around my body when I get it. I used to do the bleach or rubbing alcohol when I got it to dry it out. I haven't got it this year lucky enough because before I start hunting and when I'm done going hunting, I take a Benadryl and it blocks the histamine reaction that causes poison ivy to pop up. I still rinse off, but the oils from ivy will start to seep through your pores in as little as 20 minutes, so that doesn't work a hundred percent of the time for me if I run into it right away into a hunt. Taking a Benadryl before and after hunting helps a lot.
