Me and my buddy , plan to make a cross with a redbone and blood hound . I do not know where to start as far blood hound lines , what's the best for coon and or bear . We like grit so any ideas .

More years ago than I care to admit I got it in my head that I was going to make a coonhound out of a bloodhound. I tried several high bred registered dogs and most didn't have enough sense to find their way to the house from the front yard. Then a friend of mine bred his bloodhound bitch to a prison camp dog. They refused to do any paperwork so he could register them. I picked a male out of the litter that had the tightest eyes and made one heck of a coonhound out of him. Better track speed than would be expected and a mouth you could hear for miles. Was hidehunting a lot then and he would wreck a hide. Tie him back and he would bust the collar buckle or back up, get a running start , and bust the lead. Finally sold him to a hunting buddy who let him get in the road and take the front end off a new mustang.
Always wished I had got a good redbone bitch and bred them. Could have single registered the pups if they had turned out.

Sweet man and also sorry for your loss , I'm looking for a blood hound in nc and I have a the redbones . Any place that has decent ones ?

What are you trying to gain by adding the bloodhound to your redbones?

My uncle crossed a walker with an english setter and they turned out pretty nice. Just remember a bloodhound is not tree minded and they typically run a silent track. My advice is just go buy a walker and save some time.

My wifes grandpa crossed a Bloodhound and a Redbone many years ago. You could turn them loose tonight and get them off the tree the next night. They were some more slow trailing but very accurate. I would say it should make a good strike dog for rigging.

Oh I should of said more lol , the dogs not for me haha it's for my buddy I'd just stud his blood hound female for him with my dog . I'm dog poor lol 3 walkers , 3 redbones , 2 plotts lol . He thinks they would have a good nose and alittle with a redbone and grit . We tried a plot and a redbone , got all killed on a bear .we currently have walker redbones two and they are hands down the smartest / earliest learning amd begining I've seen they do it all - 7 months old . And they look like a full blooded Black and Tan . All them was accidentally but the plot and redbone cross . That's all
