English Days ?

Why is it always held SO far north. Just a question and I would like factual information. Not what you THINK is the reason. This is not meant to be a smart butt question. Just wonder why.

Matt look what happend at the ukc world last year. I went to bluetick days held by the other kc this past weekend. First night 62 dogs entered and 150plus got you in the final 4.lol The 2 cast that I was on never scored a coon and the last cast only one tree was scored.lol More people will show up when there is better hunting and more coon. That is the only reason I can come up with but none of this is factual.

Yea I am an old fat man myself. Just wondered why is it always so far north. Also, I don't buy the more coon thing. Hunting smart intelligent track dogs is why I hunt English . Any dog can tree in coon country. Try having a real coon dog to tree coons. The more coon argument doesn't work for me. Sorry.

I think hardtymes hit the nail on the head. Board and president being from the north. Thanks Dave. You are an honest man. Either way. I love the English hound just like the rest of us.

English Days

Not true, They take bids and then there voted on. This year there was only three bids and they was all from the North. Flora Ill , Bluffton In & Greencastle In.....If you would like to see it moved around, you need to get other clubs to put bids in. If there is no bids from elsewhere, then how can it get moved ?.........Thank's

Thanks Chad, I just wondered why they don't have the hunt in southern Indiana or Illinois ? Just seems more centrally located for everyone. Guess your right, can't except a bid if you don't get one. Thanks.

Well JMO

I hate the long drive but love looking at 7 or 8 coons a night... dogs splitting all over the woods and having 3 dogs close in the last hour... Man down here you couldnt put maybe one or two cast in even close to that kinda coon population... It's a blast and good Lord willing I will be making the trip next year to try my luck... They put on a great hunt with great facilities... Good Time and good people... find a riding partner and load the dogs... youll be glad you did.... It really is a treat and guys when you get out of your back door you get to see some really nice dog work... I hunted with some very, very, nice english dogs over the weekend and enjoyed every minute of it... other than the ride home....

Would love to go myself but not 21 hours of driving . Maybe it'll at least get down to Illinois again.

In fact at the beginning of the English meeting Janet begged other clubs from different locations to please put bids in and informed everyone that the hunt could not be moved without bids being placed. She said if you (the members) want it somewhere else please go to your local club and get a bid put together for submission.

Most of the cast i have been on in the the south were alaways hunted off feeders.Heck you can smell the kool aid when you get out of the truck.Strike off the lead run a 100yds and tree.I never thought it took a real coon dog to do that.Hunt off feeders or hunt in thick coon,i'll take thick coon.

Russ, I agree with you. I never like hunting on feeders in a hunt. They are ok to me when starting young dogs, but not in a hunt. I have hunted on feeders in all parts of the country and don't like it at all. It is supposed to be a WILD coon hunt.
This post was not to be a north vs south. I just wondered why the hunt was ALWAYS SO FAR north and that question was answered.
Also, if you see a cast in my area that has 700 to 800 points, then look out. Probably some type of feeder. But, not that common.

Matt sorry i wasnt trying to make it a north south thing.I was just responding to the more coon issue.I guess what i was trying to say is it seems like the majority of folks want to score on several coon in a night hunt .That being said i would prefer to hunt in an area of thick coon versus an area where a feeder is used to draw coon in.I lived in the south for several yrs and loved it.No disrespect intended.

Question

When they say a bid,is this the host club paying money to host English Days.Or is this a host club saying they have enuff guides and fair ground pictures where there going to have it at.

Host clubs get paid thats what the bid is all about the board votes on the bid price and what kind of facilates they have makes a big difference

Eight hour drive for us as well and loved every minute of it. Hats off to the board for having it at such a great place with the best facilities anywhere. Hope we keep going back there......and I live in the south. If you want to move one, then bring Southern Days to the deep south. I am sure those Mississippi, La, Florida, Albama and Texas boys would love that, we can call the hunt in N.C. Eastern Days, like the one out west called Western days! Then everyone will be happy. (ha!)
