Cull?

Ive been reading alot of posts on the coonhound section about culling dogs and I know from experience just pleasure hunting some dogs are great, some are good, some will get the job done, and some arent worth a hoot hunting. But I read about how these guys cull dogs for the littlest things and alot of people like this. Im sorry maybe Im a softy but if my hound can get the job done its worth keeping.

I saw a guy post that he talked to an old guy at a club that said almost all his pups make coondogs. So this guy asked the old man questions and found out the old man said if his dog will run and tree a coon more times than not than that pup made a coondog. The guy thought the old man was crazy and said if his dog doesnt track to his liking or tree too his liking or all this other stuff he culls it. Now there is a post about lists of stuff you wont tolerate in a dog and one guy has a crazy list of all the stuff he culls a dog for.

I just wonder how picky people are? Im no comp. hunter so if a dog gets its job done to me its good enough. I know that doesnt win and I love having a great one as much as the next guy. I just think if a dog dont suit you but gets the job done find a pleasure hunter to give it to or something. Seems to me some people would love to have some of the dogs getting culled out there. Plus Im a believer you can fix alot of bad habits with time and frustration. I know some dogs you cant but most my dogs I ever had beagles or coonhounds have at least got the job done. Just my opinion.

I see these posts a lot too but go to some local clubs and pleasure hunt with some guys around you and you'll quickly see most of their dogs are average at best and a high percentage of them won't be to your liking.
