? on rule 6 D

6*(d) Failing to make any attempt to hunt within any
15 consecutive scorecard minutes.

Is this fifteen minutes in a row? or

5 min first drop and ten min second drop would make em scratched?

Thanks

This is covered on page 61 of the Advisor although it was written back when the rule was 30 minutes instead of the current 15 minute rule. But any interruption, such as timeout, does not cancel the time. If the 15 minute runs for 10 minutes, then time is called, the time starts with 5 minutes left when time is called back in.

What happens if the dog has to be handled at a tree that it walks into with the cast while the 15 is running. I know what I would do I'm just interested in your thoughts. Also Jim because it is the judge’s decision as to what constitute hunting. What does a dog have to do for you to break the 15 on one?

Basically if timeout is called and dog is handled you continue the clock at the time when dogs are released again. As far as considering the dog to be hunting that would be the judges call as to what satisfies their idea of hunting. No set rule on that.

If that dog never leaves the judges sight during any of those 4 drops, then yes, it should be scratched at the end of the 15.

I believe the wording is continuous not consequtive but I could be wrong....

But yes as the advisor explains it is continuous minutes.....

I've never had a dog put on the clock for taking a leak....if it stand by you and doesn't go hunting it goes on the clock..if it goes hunting clock stops...it comes back it starts from where it was shut off at...

One guy I've hunted with a few times now trained his dog to leave a tree without a leash....if he is in a cast where a dog gets split that dog won't leave his side....the 15 came real close to getting him last time....

The wording is consective but you are leaving out an important word. Consecutive scorecard minutes. Dog doesn't hunt the last ten minutes of the first drop. Call time out to move. When you call time back in again, it is the next consecutive scorecard minute. Much different than consecutive minutes in time in general.

wrong if he left enough to stop the fifteen, if he comes back a new fifteen starts.

I am royally confused now then...

If it leaves and comes back its OK to start a new 15...

But there are instances when a new 15 isn't started???

When is a 15 broke and deleted and forgot about??

When is a 15 started from where it was left off at??

I don't care...if my dog don't hunt for 15mins out of a 2hr hunt he must be hurt and I will withdraw before 15 gets him...but I see other dogs..especially young dogs in registered class that don't hunt..or stray a few mins and come back for a while...

everytime he attempts to hunt the 15 is broken... attempt to hunt is defined by the judge but if he gets out of sight i would think that should break it for anyone jmo... the only time you stop time and continue it is if you are running the time when you call timeout... you continue it when you call timein

Read Todds reply guys...Its 15 consecutive SCORECARD minutes, if your dog stands around for 5 minutes and then goes hunting for 5 minutes and then returns a new 15 is started. If your dog stands around for 10 minutes and time must be called, when the hunt time resumes that dog only has 5 more minutes to go hunting.

Absolutely correct but what happens when the dog has to be handled because it comes into the tree with the cast. The hunt time does not stop but you also cannot continue with the 15 when the dog is on the leash. I'm going to assume that the 15 continues when the dog is turned loose again but with the wording of the 15 consecutive score card minutes it will have to be clarified.

I think you are correct....If the dog was not hunting and followed you to a tree then he would be handled and I would assume that his time would resume as soon as he was recast. Or let him mill around the tree and continue to run his time. If he shows no interest in treeing or going hunting his time could end there. Not sure how that would work out. As far as breaking the time I do not consider a dog getting out of sight and coming right back making an effort to hunt. It woukd have to stay gone a few minutes and go far enough to not be able to hear it walking around. JMO

He would have to be handled at the tree. I agree it takes more than going the long way around the bush for me to break the 15 but some will do it that way.
