Vet was out of Doxycycline hcl,usually 16 cents per 100mg, Gave me a presciption to Walmart pharmacy,3.30 cents per 100mg. Apperently just in time for Lymes season there is a shortage.

Doxy is on the $4 list at Walmart. I think that's for 10 days worth (20 pills).

Walmart pharmacy,28 day,2 caps per day,56 pills,$189.46 doxycycline hcl. My vet will give me doxy because of an earlier infection with out an office charge,so no I haven't yet checked with other vets.Last fall he sold me the exact same 100 mg pills for .16 and he told me he cannot get anymore from his supplier,They will not take anymore orders untill more comes availible.

I would call around to see if other clinics have it, some of the vet clinics around here sell that in bulk without a "prescription" needed. a friend of mine bought like 1000 pills or something for like 6 or 10 cents a pill... calling around could really save some money for you

heck, I have a whole "treatment" for lymes up here if you want them lol 3 pills a day, 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. 45 pills for $16 at my vet, but its a 30 day treatment, so 90 pills, so roughly $33

They are not making Doxycycline anymore. You CAN have it compounded but the new substitute is Minocycline. Doxy has been the standard for Erlichia, Lymes, Rocky Mtn Spotted Fever. Babesiosis needs Imidiocarb injections. Everyone is out. Absolutely stinks!

FDA doesnt say that its not making it any longer, just that there is a shortage, as verified by http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety...tm#doxycycline.

its also the drug of choice for several STD's recommended by the CDC.

Yes....there is a shortage because no one is making it. But you can get it compounded at a pharmacy. This week we were quoted $120 for 40 capsules.

http://www.inhousepharmacy.biz/ search doxycycline. I guess the plant that produces a Hugh part of the doxy was out east n in the hurricane wreckage, so there will be a shortage for awhile. But the site I listed is the one off prohound. And is prolly your best bet.. the place to be!
