This is a good idea, I would also leave a dummy collar on him. Snap the lead on him in the pen, snap him to the wire and then just switch out the collars in the pen. Lots of dogs get extra excited when that pen door opens and think its time to "bust out", do the work in the pen and then he might not be so excitable. Question, do you lead him to the truck or let him loose? Personally, I would lead him and make him know that you are in charge at all time. Hope it helps, Tom.
