Arkansas Hunters need Your Help On Dog Shooting!

I’m sure you remember hearing about a coonhound shot while on the leash on his owner, just off the White River Refuge in Arkansas.

These hunters and the Dog Killer went to court this past Thursday. The two hunters received the maximum fine and punishment for trespassing that the law will allow. The Dog Killer got off with the minimum fine and punishment for shooting the dog.

Arkansas Hunters, you should be outraged!

These guys are going to appeal this ruling and intend to take it all the way to the Arkansas Supreme Court if necessary. This is going to cost a lot of money, so they need your help.

It is a crying shame with all of the violence and killing going on in this country today that the situation below would be allowed to happen and be handled in the manner in which it has been done.

On Nov. 17, 2012, four individuals were hunting on the White River Wildlife Refuge hunting area when their dogs crossed over and entered private property and treed a coon. The individuals decided to retrieve the dogs, without a firearm, so that they could return to the wildlife refuge. When arriving at the area they were met by a man who appeared to be drunk or crazy. He was armed with a rifle and was very irate. He was claiming to be the land owner demanding identification while screaming and cursing. The individuals explained that they were hunting on the refuge and the dogs crossed over, and then asked if they could retrieve their dogs. The land owner refused their request. He then threatened to kill the dogs at the tree and shoot the hunter in the back if he went to retrieve the dogs. The hunter decided to retrieve his dog and came back with the dog heeled by his side on a leash. The irate land owner demanded that the dog owner step away from the dog so that he could shoot the dog. The hunter refused and the land owner then shot the dog while on the leash at the dog owner's side. Not only did he kill a harmless dog while on a leash, he endangered the hunter by shooting the rifle in that close proximity.

The incident was reported to the sheriff of Monroe County. Statements were written, notarized and sent to the prosecuting attorney and then the previous judge. The decision was made and a warrent was issued for only a misdemeanor. This is a minor offense which will probably allow the land owner to pay only a fine, if the warrant is truly ever served. Not only was this treated as a misdemeanor it was dragged out and not dealt with in a timely manner, probably due to the close-knit good-ol' boy club that exists in Monroe County. Word spread quickly throughout the community and it appears that this land owner is known to be irate and threatening.

Then people wonder why crimes aren't prevented prior to people being injured or killed. The judicial system only works when competent individuals are elected or appointed to the appropriate positions.

Note: This in no way reflects anything derogatory toward the federal or state game and fish commission.

People are crazy fellas, and this country is going to **** if we can't prosecute a man for shooting someone's dog as it was on a leash at someone's side. There's no excuse for that and the man should be dealt with in one way or another. I know what I'd do if a man shot my hounds. Goodluck to you guys, I hope you fry his ass.

shooting

THIS WAS A TERRIBLE THING!!!! BUT; It should also be used as a lesson. These men were hunting on a National WildLife Refuge. They had to have a permit and be under Federal law. When the dogs left the Refuge the men should have call the Federal Law Officer who could call the state warden and go along to retrive the Dogs.

The law could have explained what happened and prevented a tragedy. from what i've read the man didn't shoot the Dogs until after he got overly mad.

I like to say=WHEN A SITUATION COMES UP;AND YOU'VE GOT A PHONE IN ONE HAND THAT CAN TAKE CARE OF IT IN 30 MINUTES OR MORE=AND A GUN IN THE OTHER HAND THAT TAKE CARE OF IT IN A SECOND==THROW THE PHONE DOWN AND USE THE GUN IF IT'S A PERSONAL LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION!!! IF IT'S NOT THROW THE GUN DOWN AND USE THE PHONE.

These men had no right to trespass and get the Dogs shoot and then call the law. I wish everyone would rember, If your Dogs go where you can't call the law, they can go anywhere.

Call a warden? The dogs would have been dead by the time they got there lol that might have taken hours! There is no way someone could shoot a dog on the end of my leash without shooting me too.

Arkansas REALLY needs some kind of dog hunters association to help get our voices out there and to help with things like this. A deal like this is rediculous and its only gonna get worse as long as we lay down and take it. The public in our state doesn't see hound hunting as a sport or a right they see it as a bunch of boys riding around at night looking for some way to get into trouble. Ill bet if you went door to door you would find out the majority want it outlawed. This state is full of idiots just like the guy at white river. I would be willing to bet that my generation is the last one of Arkansans that get to legally run dogs in this state if something doesn't change fast. If you don't believe me take a look at what that bunch at little rock got passed last week. They have pretty well killed hog hunting with dogs that deals as good as a felony.

to my knowledge Ar. does not have a rite to retrieve law. I've ask a warden about this before and was told they don't recognise it. I think it should be an unspoken law, but who am I? Just another hillbilly from Ar. that wants to get out and drink and cause problems for land owners! I guess if I were in this situation I would have gotten shot myself because my dog means that much to me. We have very few rights left today because of stupid people that take it upon themselves to ruin things for everone else. I think the hanging laws should be brought back!!!! Or just put the shooter on a lead, on his hands and knees, and treat him the way he treated the dogs. JMO
