The best dog we ever had was out of a dog that Sam sold to Dave McCloud, named Butch. I've heard from several people that "HE WAS A FLAT OUT COON DOG," as he was before my time. Most of our dogs go back to to him, and many others had good dogs out of him or that went back to him. I only met Sam once but a lot of my hunting buddies were good friends with him and spoke very highly of him. May he rest in peace!

Hunted quite a bit with ol Butch and he was a indeed a flat out coon dog. Out of all the dogs I've hunted with he was definitely one of the most impressive if not the most impressive dog I ever had the pleasure to hunt with. Sam was as hard a hunter that ever drew a breath and It was an honor to call him a friend.

Sam to my knowledge brought the first registered walkers around here in southern ohio, he bought a pair of females from curt Langley from Hurley Mo. Coon was far and few between before he got those females and just as soon as he got them up here in Southern Ohio coon became more plentiful!! Everybody then realized what was wrong we had coon but no coon dogs. Things changed and Curt Langley sent a lot of dogs to Ohio, plus Sam bred the too females to Finley River Chief a couple different times. The two females when you cut them loose you would find them treed somewhere with a coon. He called these dogs Old Lady and Little Lady. As I stated before these were the best dogs in Southern Ohio in my opinion .Sam would always keep good females and if he knew of a stud that was producing he would go breed to it regardless the price or how far he had to drive. This started back in the 60s and early 70s.
