coon hunting story

Coon Hunting
Tonight I hop in my truck and I head south into the black night. My nerves are getting the best of me as I make the short trip to my cousin's house. I enter the house and smell burgers being fried, Cody and I eat and head out to fire up the old truck we drive only for hunting. We grab the pink and orange dog leashes from the dog box in the bed of the truck. As we walk down to the kennel I see a coon run across the field about two-hundred yards away, Cody says, “It's gonna be a good night!”. So we leash our two black and tan coonhounds, that have been keeping their chain pulled tight ready to hunt all week, we walk them back to the truck and load them up.
We get in the old truck and drive a few miles to the forty acre woods where we are about to drop the dogs. Cody turns on the garmin tracking collars so that they are ready to go on the dogs.
We hop out and put the tracking collars on the dogs, Nute (the younger of the two dogs) is quarrelsome as usual, by jumping and barking around. Finally, after a struggle we get the collars and our belt lights on. We leash the dogs and walk into the woods, we walk in about one-hundred yards and we cut the dogs. Nute and Dan Take off into the black, Cody and I are left with nothing but quite conversation. We walk a little longer until we find a nice log to sit on, as we are sitting our imaginations are running wild because every little thing looks different at night.
All of a sudden a reign of barks cry out from an unknown distance, you can feel your hair stand on end, as it catches you off guard the first few times you go. Cody and I jump up and run for the dogs we arrive at the dogs to find a fat and sassy coon layed-up in the top of a huge den tree. After a few minutes of listening to the sweet sound of black and tans howl through the night like the whistle of a west bound train. We are ready to reward our two anxious and deserving hounds.
Now comes the good part, I pull up my gun and align the sights with the coon, I ask Cody are you ready he replies with a simple yes. The answer is loud and clear POW the coon falls to the ground we cut the dogs so that they have a sense of accomplishment and a reward. We don’t let them chew on it for long, because we can't have a bunch of tiny holes in the fur which we will soon be selling, so we leash the dogs to a tree and and proceed to skin the coon. We finish the coon and begin making the long trek back to the truck. Finally we arrive, load the dogs, and pull out of the woods as we are leaving, I can't help but thinking how much fun it was just being out in the woods secluded from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Thats the most descriptive huntin story ive heard yet. To let yall know my hunting partner that wrote the story is just getting started and would like many of us in the big "family" that us black and tan owners are too support and strive to help keep youth in the coonhunting sport. One person Who helped me in life to get started and make me the coonhunter i am would have been Bruce Hobbs. Without the support it wouldve been hard to find the info on hunting and training pups. And the supplies that ole bruce has gave me over the years. Thanks
