If you have to do it by yourself, just pet the dog up see if you can get them to roll over on there back and rub there belly. Then snip a nail here and there. If you have help get them to do the same just love all over the dog while you clip nails. Do this every other week and the quick will slowly work it's way back. If there that long when you hunt them they will split and crack. So it's best to get them sorter before hunting. Once you have them down hunting them should keep them down for the most part. But keeping the tips clipped once a month will maintain them better.

Every dog that comes around here gets used to being snapped up tight to the end post of a forced fetch training bench. Makes every step of maintenance so much easier when you have a dog that will just stand still and can work on them at eye level. Wether its giving shots, cutting toenails, cleaning ears/cuts, you name it and it is a one man show and so much easier for you and the dog.

thats what I have used for years.......


one other thing i would mention though, is if you have to trim nails very often, esp if the dog is getting regular exercise and isnt standing in mud when kenneled (some sort of hard surface to wear them).......then its most likely a problem with conformation. dogs with naturaly tight "cat" feet, and proper alignment, keep them wore down pretty good on there own

If hunting does not get them done then $10.00 trip to groomer. Usually though hunting always keeps mine down.
