Ran into some fellow hunters tonight at the first drop they were just up the road and I didn't want to make the drop since they were in the area first so I went up and talked to them and asked them the best way to start a pup.. He said its very difficult to start a pup alone ( this I understood) but he said run them with an older no matter what even if they go hunting alone, he is an older guy and hunts every night and has hunted for years so I know he is pretty smart at treeing some coon. Just wondering what the rest of you think about this??
Being a good competition trainer is being able to give your dog what you see he needs for the style of hunting you are interested in.
Any rummy can say to hunt them solely alone, but if it takes being with another dog to get them to do something, I'm gonna do it. They key is knowing when, where and what dogs to hunt the pup with and how much...
