I recently bought a walker pup from a friend of mine. I had seen the dog at 5the months old hunting and treeing with older hounds fighting the coon the whole nine yards.. hes 8suppose months old now and i kept him for a week then brought him to the woods by himself to see what he would do. He struck and treed within 20 minutes. Coon was in the tree so i shot it down. He faught it just like i had seen him do at 5the months. I took him out again a few nights later and he struck and trailed for a few hours never did tree. Ended up to close to the hwy so i caught him. Last night i took him with two older dogs. Turned them loose and my pup struck first snd went twoards the left. The two older dogs struck in the same spot right after that and went to the right, they treed within 1020 minutes and we shot the coon out. My pup never stoped trailing but never came to that tree. So i left him out there hoping he would tree. The other dogs treed 2 more coons and he never payed them any mind. Eventually i had to go catch him because it was getting late. Guess what my wuestion is what should i do from here?

in my experience, this will sometimes correct itself over time, he's a young hound, and if a track is really hot, he could be just getting excited and running it backwards. Its kinda like when your young and drinking beer for the first time. at first all you think is "beer beer beer" you dont care what it is all you know is its yours, you can do it, and what it will do....... then after youve aged a little bit, you start to distinguish tastes for beer and their different tastes, and you start to figure out what you like, and what you dont.

sorry this was the cleanest way i could think to explain it. lol

You dont have a problem....your dog just found out he can do it on his own and dont need any help. That gonna be a good one. He may have been working a older track or even a junk track like a fox or something. I would keep hunting him by his self and let him build his confidence up and he will go get his own coon. Once they figure out they dont need help the good ones get alone with the meat. He may be running some off game too but if he switches over when he comes across a coon you've got something good. ive seen and had one that we knew would tree they just love to track more then tree at a young age but as they got around 2 years old they just started fallen treed.
