The NC General Assembly reconvened today, 1/30/13, with 30 House bills and 27 Senate bills filed. The legislators have started work! No dog bills were filed today. Early this morning, at our first legislative meeting with Republican Women Legislators, we wore our “No Dog Bills” stickers. This brought emotional comments from Rep. Julia Howard and Rep. Rayne Brown, who are working on the puppy mill/commercial breeder bill. This bill is being drafted this week! The NC Sporting Dog Assn. opposes it, and we need your help.

We are now in the world of social media: Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. I bought my first iPad today, and will use it daily in our war against the animal rights wackos who email, send messages via Facebook, and start online petitions as part of their lobbying campaign. If you have received this email, you are online. Please join Facebook and help us create a stronger presence in Social Media. Please “LIKE” us on Facebook. We have had great response, and already have over 500 “LIKES” for our page.

(HSUS has over a million “LIKES”, but that is worldwide, and been going on for years.)

If you join Facebook, you can comment to the Republican leadership about the breeder bill. The NC House Republicans have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/nchousegop?fref=ts that encourages citizens to comment about any proposed legislation. The animal rights radicals have grabbed this forum by commenting about how much NC “desperately” needs more laws for dog owners. We need to out gun them! Please write short, polite comments about how we do NOT need more law. Our laws are strong and more than sufficient to fight animal cruelty. We do not need more regulation on citizens. The legislators should be dealing with the important issues in our state, such as taxes and the budget.

The NC General Assembly reconvened on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 and adjourned on Thursday afternoon for the week. Bills are now being filed, with 103 bills filed by the close of business on Thursday. No puppy mill/breeder bill has been filed yet, but we know it is coming. Rumors are circulating about the fox bill and a possible bear bill, but we have heard nothing definite.



On Monday, February 4, 2013 at 7:00 pm, the Stanly County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on their proposed animal control ordinance. The proposed ordinance is overly broad. It contains dangerous language giving enormous power to the unelected Animal Control employees to, among other powers:



** Patrol homes and businesses in the county as necessary for the purpose of ascertaining compliance with this ordinance or state statute…

**Be empowered to go upon private property to seize animals pursuant to the provisions of this Ordinance or court order…

**Require mandatory medical treatment for dogs, whether you can afford it or not.

**Require minimum kennel dimensions 10 X 10 feet.



Dog hunters in Stanly County, please attend this Public Hearing. Join members of the Rocky River Beagle Club and Henri McClees of the NC Sporting Dog Assn. and other dog hunters in Stanly County. The meeting will be held in the Stanly County Administrative Building, 1000 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. Henri will be there by 6:15 pm to discuss the contents of this proposed ordinance with interested citizens. Thanks!
