Is there a way to get a young dog to tighten up on track seems to get real excited and sometimes barks to much on track other times uses a nice bawl. Do you think he will tighten up with age or stay this way?

My experience is that most young dogs tighten up with age.
Is he running coon all the time?? If not a lot of dogs use different mouth on junk

walkerdog i agree thats why when someone ask on here was my dog running junk i ask what does it sound like running coon? learnen you dog is the key to being a good handler. but to answere your question he could if he didnt come off a line of babblers ive had a few young dogs i started that would open on track like they had been doing it for years and also had some that wouldnt open up until they were about to put mr bandit up a tree he could tighten up but i oubt he ever gets silent on track

Coon the hole time same track as broke dogs sometimes will use different mouth on same track

When he's useing his bawl mouth do you know if he's in front leading the track or are other dogs ahead of him?

Both. i don't think its dog barking because it seems to happen more when the track bogs down( blow downs or cross big creeks or river) and they have to work it up he will also do this when hunting alone i don't know but it almost seems to me like more of excitement if makes any sense? . He does seem to have good nose on him (he will more than several times strike before several older good solid dogs) but like alot of young dogs doesn't have the hunting or maybe the brains to use it the way he should thanks for the advice

You and I both know as of now he has more nose than brains. I know it can be irritating for you but I think as he matures he will tighten up a little. He is still putting it together. At least you won't have to worry about loosing him. We will set something up soon brother hang in there. He's a nice dog. I know I have fun when I walk behind him. If nothing else, its entertaining and your never short on hound music.

hunt him with somthing that has good speed and see if he barks behind if so thats a problem ! some times youger and older hounds will bark out of place for this reason, hunting a pup to young with hound he cant keep up with will cause this to happen .
iv heard a pack of hounds running and listen to another pack behind running the same trail they just couldent keep up, and didnt have the sence to shut up and get in front ! your dog probubly will be ok he is just learning still is all.........

Guys, I've hunted with this dog many times and I assure you he's not booger barking after other dogs. Had I not hunted with him, I would be thinking the same as the rest of you though. He just gets sooo jacked up and like cooner 31 said he strikes first and often times leads the race. Walking behind him you can hear the excitement in his mouth but I understand where cooner 31 is coming from. Its not constant and there are pauses between when running track but its not very often and sometimes he puts out enough mouth out for three dogs. However, that being said, at least he has a good mouth and its nice to listen to. I'd say he will calm down once he get a little age on him.

yawl are pobubly right the older he gets he will tighten up some .
having not hunted with him its hard to say but i would imagen he will settle down some ,good dogs will learn with experience. but young dogs also learn from older dogs good or bad habbits so be careful what you hunt him with

Alot of these kinds of problems go away if a dog is hunted hard enough to get the foolishness out of their system. A couple hours a couple times a week is all alot of us hunt and sometimes that doesnt get the job done.

I dont really mind mouthy, if hes opening in the right places .
He can open every time his foot hits dirt if hes jumped the coon and running . trailing is a diffrent story i want to know thats what hes doing, and when he jumps the coon a want him to run to catch, i dont care if he sounds like hes runnin with his tail on fire after that And if he crosses a creek and gets behind , shut and run thats my motto never let any one know where you are unless you are in front or atleast within a noses lingth of it
