Come on guys

I was at a hunt a while ago with my girlfriend who is new to the sport and wants to get into nite hunts. We hung around for the bench show because she wanted to place her pup on the bench afterwards and get him used to the club atmosphere that way he isnt overwhelmed. While we were there there was a few older gentlemen making comments to her that were completely out of line. Most of it was just based on her being a woman. Has this sport gotten so bad where women cant enjoy it. What is you guys problem? She has earned her place to hunt with yall. She trained her dog herself and takes him out every night she can all while working and going to school.

For the record, If the actions described above did take place, I personally disagree with these actions.

There is nothing wrong with women competing in our sport and most hunters welcome them. Lord knows we need all the participating members we can get.

However, my real questions is............Instead of coming onto an internet forum and complaining, why didn't you personally confront these gentlemen (loosly used) and ask them what they're deal was?

I did not witness it and my girlfriend did not say anything till we left. I could tell she was not happy though. The club president did say something to one of them and i commend him for that. I just came on here to see if any other guys were like that and explain how its wrong to judge a hunter based on their sex

Ive taken female spectators with me on numerous casts...

I have never had an issue....the guys typically bend over backwards for them holding brush, offering chaps when they didnt wear theirs, etc...

Always polite and friendly and even noticed "guy talk" cussing, dirty jokes etc that typically might come out when a bunch of guys are having a good hunt and getting along etc werent said...and i respected and appreciated it every time and i am the same way when a woman is present...

But at the end.of the nite the girls ive taken can hold their own either way..heck the one chews copenhagen lol...

Sorry to hear yours had to.deal with some crap....around here there are a few woman that hunt and some that spectate...nice to see them in the woods..same with younguns....

Sometimes you just gotta "cowgirl up", it isn't always gonna be easy for a woman to merge into this sport, but if you can tuff it out it can be highly rewarding.

I have drawn some woman and girls that was top notch handlers. Angie Reid when she was just a teenager. Sharon Jelly was another one. If you treated her wrong, you might get your guts cut out. LOL

Ive had the same thing happen to me before when i showed up to hunt with some guys once or twice before with my wife and kids. They made a few remarks and i quickly called them out and said if they wernt welcome to hunt then i wasnt either. I just loaded up and we left and had a great night hunting as a family. Some think its kind of cool to see a woman out there and have no problem with it.

I would love for my wife to hunt with me some, lol. Every now and again would be fun. I love her to death but you have to have your time as well just like she shops and I do not.
Trying to get her into being my handler in the shows as well.
She does go to the shows with me.

My wife started going to hunts with me then wanted to try handling. After a couple tries she won now she's hooked heck i don't even get to hunt my dog anymore he belongs to her now lol. The guys sometimes don't know how to take hunting against her i think but nobody has been rude. Heck they say she's a better handler than i am.

Those men that made those comments should be getting there jaw jacked for saying those things. I believe women have as much right as men at the nite hunts. I got beagles that I field trial also, and I know some women that compete in those type of events and there the nicest people you ever meet. My wife handles a lot of my dogs when we go to these trials. Those so called men shouldnt have said anything pertaining to your girlfriend. The best thing that could happen is maybe one day your girlfriend will enter her dog in a bench competition, and one of those jacklegs enter one of there dogs and I hope and pray she beats them!! That would be great to see.

My wife and i have a pretty good system that has stood the test of time.... She doesnt hunt and i dont cook. I make things dirty and she makes them clean. She babied the kids and i provided the discipline.I make the money and she spends it.
This system worked for hundreds of years, you young guys have screwed it all up.

Must just be your club.. My wife hunts the hunts more than I do.. She has won most of her casts.. We've been all over the country and shes competed from local level all the way to the world hunt and never had a problem other than the few typical jack asses you draw from time to time that think they know it all.. She sends them to the truck real quick but never any sexest comments

Why would she not be welcomed anywhere? Man/Woman are welcomed to any nite hunt or bench. There welcomed to any type of club.

John we young guys may have "screwed it up" as you put it but point is that we both enjoy the sport and who are guys like you to tell someone what they can and cant do when you are on the same level as the girl leading a dog around. She is on the same level as the guys talking crap on her only better I believe because she puts up with it and proves herself in the woods.

Whoa there young fella, not telling anyone what to do. Just what worked for me. You might in the future defend her honor when shes insulted instead of on the interweb. Lol.

It's all a matter of respect!

I was raised to show people respect.Matter of fact,my Dad demanded it.Yes sir,No sir,Yes Ma'am,No Ma'am.And until someone disrespects you, always, always show respect. To this day,I still get people telling me to not call them sir or ma'am.Growing up,I always thought my Dad took it to extremes, but to this day,I'm glad he did.And I'm now 56yrs. of age.

Might be a case that just maybe someone was looking for reasons to be uncomfortable, I never heard a negitive comment made to my wife or daughters, and they are very good looking, quite possably the guys were tring to make her feel welcome? I bet if no one said anything to her, you would be on here complaining no one talked to her or were rude to her becaulse she is a woman? just a thought.
