NC Coonhunters - CALL TO ACTION

NC Coonhunters Assn. CALL TO ACTION -
Two dog hunters in Bladen County were shot, at the time of shooting they were unarmed. NCCHA is asking coonhunters in NC to contact the Bladen County DA's office and respectfully ask that justice be served, and the shooter charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
We ask you to call on Wednesday, if we can get 1000 phone calls and faxes it will be a successful campaign. I have spoken to the family representative and they support our action. Please make your call brief and respectful. Something like this:
"I am a coonhunter in NC and I am calling to respectfully demand justice in the shooting case of Thomas David Daughety Sr and Jr (Daughety rhymes with naughty btw), I am asking you to expedite the charges against this shooter and have him prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Bladen County DA = Phone 910-872-7300 Fax 910-872-7307
* Wednesday is action day, call and/or fax on Wednesday!!!!!

Chris, I don't think the whole story is being told. I will always stand up for hound hunting but I also understand how a lot of these confrontations come up. I think getting the point across would be better served after more details are released about this incident. A lot of phone calls could add to bad press for hound hunters because somebody is going go way overboard with their conversation. I am a LEO and believe justice should be served regardless of anybody's past or present job. Just a lot of stuff missing from this story.

Brian, I agree none of us know the whole story. I have investigated quite a bit, I have spoken with family members of those shot and I respect and agree that I obviously have only one side of the story. Also, Thanks for your service as LEO.

Anyone who does not wish to participate in my proposal is free to abstain. I encourage anyone with reservations to look up the case and details in local papers and news stories, and make your own conclusions before calling or faxing.

On Wednesday I will be making a respectful phone call.

Chris, I know you would not go into this without doing your home work. I just hope others don't let emotion over run their ability to make a positive point and not another coal for the anti-hound bonfire. Thanks for your support Chris to the hound hunters of NC.

NC Coonhuners; If you join this effort, please make your call or fax brief and respectful.

The effort is designed to show the DA's office that this case is being looked at on a State level and hopefully this will cause the case to at least be brought before a grand jury to evaluate.

It's been a week since this happened, why hasn't the whole story come out yet?
Brian, if it wasn't a retired officer, would you be making your comment. The way I see it, the shooter took it in his own hands to take another humans life. He of all people should have let the Law handle his problem.
All Chris is saying we need to make sure that justice is served.

If you read my posts and don't understand what I said then I will repeat it. I stated that I want to see justice served no matter a person's current or past proffesion. It does not matter who shot who. It does matter that a lot of facts, I believe, have been left out of the story. It is the truth that the media generally paints the picture of LEOs current or retired in a negative way. I get paid and trained to be sure of my judgements before I make a decision. My main concerns with any of this is that justice is served by due process and that a negative shadow not be cast upon all dog hunters. I have lived the majority of my life in NW North Carolina where coon and rabbit hunters are the most common. Since moving to eastern NC I have seen a lot of houndsman, if you can call them that, who would make most people mad. It only takes one bad encounter to give all hound hunters a bad rap. I never said not to call or send a message to show your concern over this matter. I just think it needs to be done in the right way and not by anybody who can't control their temper. I have seen way to many threads and posts where people always think the nonhunter or landowner is at fault. I know I have not handled every confrontation with an angry landowner the right way but thank God I have never been shot at, at close range anyway. So in a short version, I am not against hound hunters taking a stand just do it with the right frame of mind and not by over zealous emotions. Chris has done his research and I believe he would not ask anyone to do something he did not think was morally and ethically right. Again one bad encountet of any kind leaves a bad taste that is hard to get over.

I'd like to hear the whole story as would the rest. But if this shooter has the DA and other current law enforcement in his hip pocket ONLY because he is a retired trooper, then that's a joke and an all too common joke.

Sure dog hunters can be a horse's rear, but if the retired trooper comes out of his vehicle, screaming with a gun in tote as the article claims, then what did he expect to happen? Somebody, if not all, were asking for a fight of some type.

I hate to say it Brian, as I know you a bit from your hunting days around Taylorsville, but if you want to swipe dog hunters as having a bad attitude then you might as well throw officers and troopers in the pot. I realize when a man gets a simple speeding ticket it's not designed to be a pleasant experience, but more than a few can ruffle a mans hair in short fashion. I was taught to respect authority first, despite how they act...within reason.

I'd bet they did fight, and the retired trooper felt a bit un-maned or just thought he'd stack the deck with a pistol. But, If they weren't trespassing, and hadn't been, then I don't see how the retired trooper shouldn't be charged. Either way, two people were shot, something needs to be done, and the fact the shooter knows the system isn't gonna help the dog hunter.

Jubal, I did not say dog hunters were bad. I said one bad encounter or one bad hound hunter can make it bad for all hound hunters. I love the fact that people can still enjoy hound hunting in NC. One reason is because of dedicated hound hunters standing up for the right to hunt with hounds. But they do it in the right way. Jubal you are right that some LEOS do have an attitude and do come across arrogant. I will not say this is ok but we do deal with an element that will cause you to forget not everybody is a criminal.

You've got a lot of nerve bud. It doesn't matter what the rest of the story is. They were UNARMED and SHOT! It's fine to take up for your "brethren" but you need to put a sock in it on this matter. I hope they fry this Dudley Doright

You obviously did not read all of my posts. To say it again, if he is guilty then he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Nobody should be exempt no matter their current or past proffesion. Chris, David, and Jubal obviously understand my point. I have never expressed that I thought he was innocent. That being said the whole story has not been told and maybe by people calling it will help speed things up, if done in the right way. That is the point of my posts. As far as brethren I see myself as brethren with the hound hunting community and the law enforcement community. Whoever is in the wrong deserves to be punished and that is the way I am. I have no problem with your opinion or judgement of the story as I have my own opinion and will not judge either side until I hear more of the story. I hope everybody is safe while hunting and remember to conduct yourself with integrity because you are a representative of all hound hunters.

to call the sheriff's office now would show one's prejudice against the system. most everyone, including me, believe there is a tendency for the thin blue line to defend the thin blue line at the expense of all the rest of us. at this point we have no objective reason to act and show our prejudice against the system that believe will be prejudice against us. it's been a week but it's be new years and christmas so that must slow things down.
