I'd like to hear the whole story as would the rest. But if this shooter has the DA and other current law enforcement in his hip pocket ONLY because he is a retired trooper, then that's a joke and an all too common joke.
Sure dog hunters can be a horse's rear, but if the retired trooper comes out of his vehicle, screaming with a gun in tote as the article claims, then what did he expect to happen? Somebody, if not all, were asking for a fight of some type.
I hate to say it Brian, as I know you a bit from your hunting days around Taylorsville, but if you want to swipe dog hunters as having a bad attitude then you might as well throw officers and troopers in the pot. I realize when a man gets a simple speeding ticket it's not designed to be a pleasant experience, but more than a few can ruffle a mans hair in short fashion. I was taught to respect authority first, despite how they act...within reason.
I'd bet they did fight, and the retired trooper felt a bit un-maned or just thought he'd stack the deck with a pistol. But, If they weren't trespassing, and hadn't been, then I don't see how the retired trooper shouldn't be charged. Either way, two people were shot, something needs to be done, and the fact the shooter knows the system isn't gonna help the dog hunter.
