What's the most effective way to get dogs to be silent in the kennel. I have 4 and the neighbors patience is wearing thin.

I saw a bird house at fleet farm that had some sort of electronic devise in it that they will not bark when it is on . Really dont know how it works but my sister has one and loves it. Around 50 bucks but it is cheaper than bark collars and wont burn sores on their necks like the bark collars. Its in the dog supplies also seen it in dog supply books

This is one of those things I simply cannot tolerate. My method for stopping barking is whatever it takes. I will go with bark collars, but don't like leaving them on full time with risk of them digging into the flesh, but will rotate them.

Other methods vary on serverity depending on 1. what time of day it is (like if you wake me up, prepare to do battle) 2. what I can get my hands on when I run out the door 3. How many offenses the dog has 4. my mood at the time 5. age of dog 6. what kind of house dog is in (alot of times they run into it when they see me coming.....and if I can move it they are going for a ride.

bark collars, leather strap and water hose. bb gun is no good, but a 12 ga with bird shot at a goodly distance that will sting their arses works really well.

after all that, when the porch light comes own, the quite time starts right away

I have heard those bird house things don't work because they go off when any dog barks, so it doesn't really teach them anything if it is going off all the time, when you have multiple dogs. I prefer a bark collar, or shock collar, like someone else said you can't just leave them on for extended periods of time because it will rub their necks raw. I use the shock collar because it can be used to teach the dog the command, "shut up". Just remember whatever you do to shut them up, make sure you catch them in the act of barking, so then can relate the punishment to the crime. I personally don't think taking a switch to a dog 30 second to a minute after their last bark teaches them anything, but I could be wrong.

what's wrong with you guys about whipping, afraid it might hurt their feelings. a good whipping never hurt anyone & sure don't think it would hurt your dog but would do him good.

i dont care what you do some just wont shut up. i got one that i have tried everything short of crossing that line where your just being cruel. some blood lines are just that way. my other dog doent bark hardly ever and both where raised and treated the same. all i know is that i wont have anymore of that blood at my house again. good luck.

My experiences with bark collars have varied. My b&t would get mad about the shock, so he'd bark even more. It was a cycle, he'd bark, get shocked, get mad and bark, etc. My walker was borderline aggressive to begin with. He'd make these funny noises in his throat that would result in a shock, even though he didn't bark. Naturally, this made him mad too, especially since the shocks seemed random and confusing. I didn't realize the extent of the problem until the walker killed the b&t (and I killed the walker). I don't think the shock collars caused that, but I think they contributed.

On my dogs that are not hounds, they work great.

bark collar if that & a few wippings dont work ,they go play at the big farm in the sky.i wont tolerate it & dont believe it is neighborly of me to expect someone next door to tolerate it.

Constant, uncalled for, and uncontrollable barking is a mental defect!!!!
Now if something is out there(like a cat), or they have never been taught when and when not to bark thats a different subject.
#1. Figure out which dog "STARTS" the barking most of the time and why. Dogs are pack animals and will copy the lead dog just for the sake of doing so. Plus you never know your wonderful buddy on the other side of the fence might have an ol tom cat that just enjoys pissing off your hounds! Then you get to tell him that if he dont like the barking to keep his d@mn cat on his side of the fence!
#2 I like the "Hands On" method. I want my dogs to know when "I AM" and when "I AM NOT" happy with them. I swear to you that my hounds know if Im happy with them or not from just how Im looking at them!
#3 Hunt the piss out of them. Could be that they are just bored! Im not talking about a 30min walk in the park hunt. I mean hunt'em till their feet hurt. You will be surprised how quite it is when they are sleeping.
So.... Heres my suggestion. Hunt the hair off them every chance you get. Figure out whos the alpha and why is he barking. Then correct that dog first with some good ol fashion behind the woodshed personal time!
Problem solved........ Unless they simply have a defect. Then, well thats takes a hands on method as well.

the last thing i'm worried about is my dogs barking i just tune them out ! the old couple that lives the closest to me the guy comes over and watches them bark i said what about your wife he said she is deaf as a post lol !

Try alot more exercise. They're proably bored from being locked,take them and run hell out of them.If that doesn't work step it up with good whipping.
I use a hose and sprayer on my pups as soon as the understand what be quiet means. If you have a bad barker spray the hell out of him with the hose, I haven't seen one yet that it has'nt worked on.It's all about getting them to control there emotions.
