Broken Ankle

I just broke my ankle last thursday while deer hunting, I got to have surgery on it soon. I was wondering how long after surgery will it take for me to be back to normal or will it ever? I mean back to hiking, and hunting. Thanks and GOD Bless.

probally about 6 wks at least and then easy on it and let muscles strengthen back up. main thing is after surgery don't try rushing it, take it easy for 5 wks and let the power of healing work its magic. if you reinjure it, you have to start all over and it drags it out.

Broke mine back in June of 2010. It was a clean break. I was in a cast for 6 weeks. Then rehab for about a month and was good as new. Didn't have surgery though so it may be longer. Hope its a fast recovery!

No weight on it till your probably out of a cast. Its a bummer not being able to do anything but better just do what dr says then have to repeat the process all over.

Take the time and do what the doctor ordered. So many people get in a hurry and prolong the problem or make recovery last longer. It's frustrating I know I had ACL surgery in Feb. Crutches for six weeks, therapy for 3 months. Not fun but worth it after the fact.

Man Justin that stinks. I broke my fibula right above my ankle and dislocated the tibia on the 20th of October. I had surgery to put a plate on the bone and a screw through my ankle to draw it all together. I will be getting the screw out on December 21st and the Dr said that I should be able to try walking on it then. Do everything they say and you'll be better off for it, do not try to rush it...this has been my hunting season so far. haven't got the cooners out but at least I am hearing some nice races.

Thanks, looks like your able to put some weight on it with crutches. here what happen to me.

At 11:30am I was walking down a hill on the side of a mountain, As I was heading down I step on a rock that was cover with leaves. As my left foot went out from under me and the Right foot got caught but all the pressure made it act like a rubber band and broke. I heard and felt it break. As I laid there trying to figure it out on what I was going to do, I decided to get a hold of some friends to come and get me. He tried to fine me but could not. So I crawled up the hill to a flat spot, was able to get to my feet and use a stick to help me walk. I got to my bronco and drove off the mountain (with my right foot broke). At 1:40pm Alison (my wife) was able to meet me at a friend house and take me to the hospital. So now I am useless until the end of the year, until yesterday I never had a broking bone or had to have surgery. Plus tomorrow is Alison and my 11 years anniversary. I would like to say thanks to my buddy for dropping every thing to come and try to help me and his buddy too.
