There have recently been alot of threads about accuracy of a hound. I have pulled some #s to give you a little something to think about. NOW THIS IS A RATIO OF TRACKS STARTED AND FINISHED AND SCORED AS EITHER CIRCLE MINUSED DELETED OR PLUSED.

Final cast of wld hunt this year occording to the score card. 4 dog cast 7 stikes 2 coons scored.

final cast of the fall senior super stakes 13 strikes O coons scored

final cast of Junior super stakes 13 strikes dogs were awarded plus tree points 9 times now some backing was going on in this cast 3 coons scored

final cast of sophmore super stakes 8 strikes 5 of those awarded plus points 3 coons scored

THESE ARE NOT BACKYARD HUNTS 41 TRACKS STARTED AND FINISHED AND SCORED AND ONLY 16 TIMES AWARDED PLUS POINTS. Would you take a dog that would get you plus points 50% of the time they were unsnaped it seems one of them kind could get you in the final cast of any hunt there is.

final cast of the ukc wld was won with 25+. final cast of the senior ss was won with 25-. final cast of the junior ss was won with 275+. final cast of the sophmore won with 275+. Does speed or accuracy win more hunts? Lilly only made 2 trees in 2 hours and had no problem takin home the bacon.

4 of the most wanted cast to be in the final 4 and the dogs that won consistantly nuff to get there and averaged out and were less than 40% accurate. What could a man do with a 95% dog?

I say AMEN!

Even if you were to just keep track of trees made as either..."COON SEEN" or "COON NOT SEEN", (DENS COUNT AS COON NOT SEEN) for the course of ONE ENTIRE YEAR, I would lay money the national average is between 35-40%. There is no such thing as a 90-95% accurate dog, one has never lived. I would take 2 out of 3 (66%) any day, & I'm still trying to find one of those.

The determining fact in accuracy is "COON SEEN", is it not?

I started keeping track of my dog after reading one of the accuracy post.

I only recorded hunts when hunting alone with my dog to be sure of who was getting the work done.

From 7/22/12 to 10/31/12

25 hunts

44 trees made

28 coon seen (only count 1 per tree...lol)

63.6 % accurate.

Some nights he was 100% some nights he was 0%.

Made at least two drops each hunt.

My last hunt made four trees and didn't see a coon. I know the coon were moving cause I was seeing them but not where he said they were.

A week earlier and he was driving them good and had the coon.

I think I am lucky to have a 63% dog.

Going to keep track of it for one year for the best result.

But I don,t think running the numbers based on coon seen or not is exactly fair, no one like,s the truth more than I about an accurate dog, but, how many of those tree,s were legit circle tree,s that a coon could have been in, I think to totally be fair you would have to remove those from the track equation, because the dogs finished the track at a tree and it may have had a coon there but just to thick to be seen..........Gerald

Yeah there were a few that I thought might have a coon but you have to have a clear line. That is why I thought to be really fair you need an entire year of data. If what you are saying is correct then his average should go up in the winter months.

I also think that if OVER THE COURSE OF ONE ENTIRE YEAR, if Den Trees affect your accuracy percentage more than 10%, there are other issues lurking beneath the surface.

YA VIC BUT YOU HAVE SOME SAYING THERE DOG WILL HAVE A FOUND COON 95% OF THE TIME. NEVER SEEN A DOG EVEN CLOSE TO THIS I WOULD SAY 60% TO 70% DOG WOULD A TRUE WORLD CLASS ACCURATE DOG IN MY AREA.

I have seen the posts over the past year on how accurate people claim their dog to be and I try real hard to stay off this board.
But I have learned to read these claims while I eat my baloney sandwich. I think 80 percent of us know better, come up to BBOA Days and put your dog on the card for three nights.This board is for entertainment only, not facts.Unless you prove us wrong.

Its all about coon seen. Not about legitimate circles. Just as well as a coon could be there he may as well not. Run it an entire year and if your truthful your dog is probably gonna be 50% or less. The problem with the truth is that it doesn't sell pups or stud fees. Good post and subject though.

If you've got a dog that's 50%, here he'll be above average or he don't make many trees. That is coons seen or not seen, the way it should be scored. Just my opinion, alot of times I think a den tree is a backtrack. Not always but alot, it seems like the track gets worse the further it goes. I would pay to hunt with one here in these hills and hollers that is 90-95%, then I will try to own him. As long as it ain't Old Charlie, cause we know he's deep, by himself and with a coon everytime. But when you leave the funny stuff at home I don't think any others exist. Just my opinion. Where was ole charlie at in all those final cast?lol Huge mouth, deep and lonely every drop with the coon. Sure could beat one of them 40% dogs that everyone would cull.lol

Very good point on the big hunts and little scores............



Then ya gotta think about all the posts about guys breed'in to "better the breed.........." on and on we go....................This nite champ / that nite champ.........if they are less than 60% that dont make them a bad hound, but it doesnt trip my trigger as to something I'd want a pup outta.

If ya have hunted for a coon's age and do yer homework ya can still figure out who the bull crappers are etc over time and stay away from that stuff.........oh hadta edit as I forgot to add....maybe I'm wrong....maybe ya could win the whole darn thing with one

It's always been common knowledge that at dark a coon comes down his den and leaves and at dawn he returns! Now, that being said, all of us have treed den's with coon looking out of them, especially in the rut, but as a rule, that's an exception. I will take a 60-70% dog anytime, (if they are out there). JMO......Ron

keep score with a choppin axe and 22 if you realy want to know what they are doing! its harder to win with an honest coon dog than you think, but i won't settle for nothing less.

I've had two hounds in the past that did not tree unless the game was there.I know it seems unreal,but it's true.These two dogs didn't tree den trees,or bay in holes.Maybe that was a flaw in them leaving a den,but i always saw eye's in a tree,or caught on the ground.Wonder why they didn't tree feed trees with scent all over them,or stay at dens?If anyone else has had a dog like this,please pm me,and save yourself the reaction i'm going to get from this post.I would like to find a line of dogs that are good at having the meat.
After some thought,i have to wonder if they had some farm dog in them.I use to hunt with farm dogs years ago,that always had the game also.

Had another thought.Maybe dogs running loose are more accurate? It makes sense.They wouldn't be as hyped up when hunted,and they get experience every day.
