coon suicide

I took my stepson out the other night and we turned loose in a piece of stateland. The dogs got in 600 yards and treed we get in there and as we were walking in we saw the coon, both dogs were treeing, the next tree over had 2 more up it. I let him shoot the coon but my 22 doesnt have the best sights on it so after a couple shots I get the gun back and shoot the coon. I heard a big crash and he says did you see that and i didnt, he said that coon just jumped out of the tree. i let the dogs chew on the one i shot a little then I leashed up my best dog and led him where the other coon jumped as soon as he started pulling on the leash I let him go, he went about 30 feet and we were right behind him and he stopped i look and there is a dead coon laying on the ground. I turn it over and it is still warm so I know it is the one that jumped out of the tree. Never saw that before so I just thought I would share. It was probably about 50 feet away from the tree it jumped out of.

I've had a few jump out of the tree on me but they were few and far between.

I watched one jump out once. High enough that you heard a good, solid "THUD" when he hit. He sorta waddled towards the dogs and I like he was really dazed. Funny as could be!

I thought it was weird that it ran off but only made it a little ways and died. My stepson thought it was cool watching it jump he said sticks flew everywhere when it landed then it ran away but it only made it about 50 feet and died. I guess he thought he was going to get away or die trying.
