I have a 6 year old female TW. Her eyes are cloudy. She has been to the vet and he gave me some tobradex (steroid/anitbiotic) drops to do for 10 days. Drops didn't help her eyes. He said it is not cataracts and her lens are not scratched and not entropian (sp?). He took a shot with the tobradex, even the other vet in the office wasn't sure what is causing the cloudiness. Some days the cloudiness is worse than others. In the mornings she will have thick green gunk in her eyes and it is deep in there, not just on the lid. I have to wipe at it several times with some tissue to get it out. To make it even more interesting, a 1 yr old female puppy of hers is starting to show the same cloudy eyes. Anyone seen this before or point me in the right direction? All I can find on Goggle for "cloudy eyes in dogs", the vet has said it isn't.

Her visions seems to be OK and goes hunting. Every once in a while, the way she acts when I open her kennel makes me think she can't see the chain link very well.

Any suggestions would be beneficial before I take her to the vet school to see if they can figure it out.

if you can find some boric acid poeder put it in water and boil it let it cool but it in a little squrit bottle and put in in her eyes should tell you on the bottle how to mix it for a eye wash my granpap used it yrs ago when a dog get a cloudy eye cleared it right up did your vet check her inner eye lid make sure she dont have something more serious going on buddy of mine had a horse get a cloudy eye like that no damage showing for awhile end up he had cancer in his eye spent alot of money on him still end up loseing him hope you the best for you and your dog and hope it aint nothing serious

has the vet checked her for blastomycosis, my daughter had
a dalmation that got it in one eye. ended up having to remove the eye & take medication to rid her body of it.

Has he been in any cotton fields while hunting if it has been sprayed it will cause this.

cloudy eye- loss of clarity or transparency accompanied by signs of pain suggests keratitis,glaucoma or uveitis.cataracts are the most likely cause when the eye is not painful.

A condition with the eyes is often an indication that something is systemically wrong with the dog. My police work dog lost his vision and eyes were cloudy. Treated with antibiotics and prednisone. He bounced back for two and a half weeks then lost vision again. Come to find out he had lymphatic sarcoma. Not saying that your dogs have cancer but it could be something else internal. Eyes in a dog often indicate that.

I lost my best dog this past Christmas, he was 8 yrs. old. I took him to the Vet. around Thanksgiving with what we thought was an eye infection. His eyes became cloudy and he lost his vision. He died from a brain tumor a month later. Not saying this is what your dogs has, but cloudy eyes could be very serious

Thanks for all the replies. We are going to take both dogs to the vet at the same time so he can look at them together to determine if they have the same issue or not. From there we will decide what the next step will be for both dogs.

My continued research suggests what some of you have said in that issues with the eyes can sometimes mean problems beyond just the eyes.

just find it hard to believe that 2 dogs come down with the same if it were serious,, brain tumors n such,, do you keep them inside?? could be a cleaner or dryer air,, dogs seem to do much better outside than in,, thats why they got that fur,, seen a couple get rashes and chew their hair right off from being inside,, outside maybe a different bedding may help,, friend has a redtick with same type syptoms ,, been putting mearicle drops in his eyes and it cleared rt up,, little knats were also attracted to thisand may have been the cause?? or the cotton/soybeans or other would be my guess,, hope im right

My dog had to go to a dog eye doctor, her eyes were very cloudy and swollen. One eye was worse than the other, doc told me her immune system is attacking the tissue of her eyes??? Also says we will be fighting this for a while, she is 10. She is doing much better and vision has came back.

Another note is the fact that a dog has a natural defense mechanism when there has been some damage, as in a scratch to the cornea, of the eye in a dog. The eye clouds over while the eye is healing. I had a beagle with this. When the vet checked him out he had scratched the lens in heavy brush. The vet gave me an oitment applied lightly and directly to the eye and it cleared in a weeks time. The vet is the right route when the eyes are affected.
