dog waste disposal

I've just built a new kennel, and am looking for suggestions on how to deal with disposal of the waste. What's the best way to keep my lot clean and odor free?

Dog Disposal

I get all the poop up out of my kennels and then bleach and use Pine-sol every other day. It keeps them smelling pretty good.

How much did you spend on your new kennel?? A 100 ft roll of real good wire costs $110 . That gives you a 20 ft X 30 ft run not counting posts . And not concrete because it is on the ground. 1200 square feet. I bet a 6x 10; 60 squre foot cage concrete costs 4 times that much plus you get the pleasure of everyday going out and cleaning it up with a squirt hose and bringing up a stink .!! Now follow me > the next 1oo foot roll of wire gives you a a 33 ft X 30 ft ground pen . And the next roll of wire gives you the same thing till all of a sudden , guess what? You get a 50 by 50 ground pen for free other than a gate and gate post. I'll send you some soil microorganisms if you nedd to get a jumpstart . The turds wiil disappear so fast you got to set your alarm clock early if you enjoy scooping turd a at 1,ooo sg feet per dog. Now if you don't have an extra acre of ground then I recon you could hire a CIVIL Engineer and a SOIL Scientist and Tie into a public sewer system and rent monthly rights.

I clean mine with a rake and shovel everyday, then cover the floor with lime. Keeps everything dry and covers the smell. It's cheap too.

better ever for odor, ph neutral and won't eat up concrete or your dog's feet-

SWEET PDZ granulated

absorbs odor, takes very little per use- takes about 2 cups for a 10X10 pen each use. it's about $12 for a 40# bag, ask at your LOCAL feed dealer.

I sloped my concrete runs 6" from front to back (north to south).

At the back across the entire width of the kennel I have a concrete trench that slopes 9" (east to west). The trench is 12" wide and is lower than the kennel floor and outside the wire. The wire is 3" off the floor which allows the waste to go under it.

On the west end of the trench I burried a plastic 55 gallon barrel and cut a hole in it the size of the trench where the trench will dump into it. The barrel sticks up above ground about 12 inches.

On the opposite side of the barrel have a 20 foot septic lateral line that runs to the west and is burried.

I wash the waste to the trench and then wash the trench into the barrel every day.

I put septic system chemicals in the barrel to ensure the waste will break down and the water flows into the septic pipe and leaches into the ground....very little smell and no mess.

Occasionally I will add new septic chemicals to keep the system working.

John, a 10 by 10 pen is huge by todays standards . That is a whole one Hundred square feet dedicated to just 1 dog lol.. Remember pi r squared?? A dog lead is 5 feet long. That if it was hooked to a spike in the ground would be concidered a RADIUS . Pie comes into play, 2.1416. times the radius (5 feet) squared.. Five feet squared is 25 feet back times pie is only 50+ square feet. No wonder the dog catcher beeeees on anybody leaving their dog hooked on a lead. But lets say you splurged and bought 2 leashes and hooked them end to end. The radius would be ten feet ... r squared would be 100 feet, times 2.1416 equal more than 210 square feet.. Thats twice as big as the 10 by 10 pen most animal rights lovers decide is great big. Next step is a big ole 10 by 10 concrete pen Might be considered like one of them rooms in Hadees a Veterinarian Got sent to. When he got there the Devil showed him around . The first room he got to was dirt floored 2 inches deep in dog ,hog and cow poop and people standing on their heads in it. The vet says to show him another room. The next room was concreete floor six inches deep in poop and folks standing on their head in it. Vet says show me another. The next room was full of slick marble tables 12 inches deep in poop and the floors were knee deep in poop but everybody was standing around sipping coffeee. The Vet says he was used to that and he would take that room. Vet got some coffee , crossed his legs introducing himself and asking who knew how to play Bridge?..A while later the Devil re appeard and said, "Alright you SOBs , coffee break's over.. ' Back on your heads".

100 ft role of good wire gives a 20 ft by 30 ft pen on the ground. Soil microorganisms in the ground do your Work and your little bit of scooping and squirting high dollar concrete work still stinks to high heaven. I hope somebody THINKS instead of quoting me and going, HUH???? LOL. Instead of concrete trailer park, lets give one Heart Pine Flooring HUH???? Same difference. Cedar flooring? Black Walnut Flooring ? Huh? What is best and most expensive to impress the dog catcher with??

I will bet my bottom dollar that there is a tenth grader on here that knows pi r square and will explain it all better than i did . I might have tadpoles in my head but a 10th grader can explain what I said. If one cannot , dang it, and IF Obama gets reelected , it is Truly time for me to give up on this land.....and get on back to Scotland or Nova Scotia.

still love ya buddy, but pi is 3.14, not 2.14. i wouldn't call it a fly in the ointment like i would a communist in the white house, i'd just call it a memory induced arithmetic error. a philosophical communist in the white house is a fly in the ointment where "free people's" are concerned, ironically they also can cause arithmetic errors trying to impose their arbitrary wishes where the math don't work out. the problem for them is they think YOUR property and money are "we're" property and money and act arbitrarily direct said "we're" property and money- in the third person.

i'm hoping we depose the communist in the white house, much the same as SWEET PDZ will eradicate and remove the odors in your dog pen. if not, i have heard belize might be a good choice, a lot warmer then nova scotia or scotland so the bikini weather is longer. i'm sure there is some tree game critter or varmint for dogs to chase in that jungle, maybe jaguars.

no "huh's" except this one in my whole reply, you got to like that.

If you have the room and have concrete flooring in your kennel this is the best answer yet. Just google septic systems and you can find different plans.
