You can have birdseye and your topo on a card

You can turn off the birdseye if you choose by going to map options and clicking the birdseye off.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I zoom in to say 25 yards then next thing I know I'm back out to 2 miles. What's up with that ?

There is a couple zoom options in the map section. You need to turn them off.

To answer your question, YES you can. By loading the topo map on the onboard memory of the Garmin, and the birdseye on a memory card, you can enable both the topo maps and the birdseye at the same time...

I run mine that way every day...

there are 3 different definitions of download- standard, high, & highest. The highest takes the longest and uses up more ram. I can't really see any difference between high and highest. On highest, it takes 5-7 minutes to download a 10 mile square. It is best to have something else to do while you are downloading or it is like watching paint dry.
