KALAMAZOO, MI, Oct. 24, 2011 – In an effort to accommodate current ownership trends, and at the request of many of our customers, the United Kennel Club has decided that the current co-ownership policy will be phased out in the coming months and replaced with a single signatory system, allowing four owners total, beginning March 15, 2012.
The current standard two-owner limit will be increased to allow four owners; and the owning partners will designate only one owner as the signatory. The signatory will be the only owner required, and allowed, to sign any UKC documents and papers associated with the dog, meaning that the signatory will represent all other owners in any transactions with UKC regarding the dog. This new ownership policy will alleviate the need to obtain more than one signature on any document. Further, it will expedite the turnaround time on papers and allow multiple owners to be listed on papers, degrees, and advertisements.
The single signatory system will be available to owners, on an optional, voluntary basis, starting March 15, 2012, and will last until December 31, 2012.
On January 1, 2013, the single signatory policy will be mandatory, and a single signatory will then be required for all litters and dogs registered to co-owners with United Kennel Club. The prior co-owner options of an "and" or an "or" partnership will no longer be available for new registrations or transfers at that time. Dogs that are co-owned and registered under the original co-ownership policy before January 1, 2013 will not be required to change to the new system but may chose to do so.
UKC understands there will be questions about the details of this policy change and is working on a list of Frequently Asked Questions for our customers to reference. Click here for a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
