I know we've all had or hunted with aggressive tree dogs. When do you all think they are too aggressive? I don't care if a dog wants to face bark mine. I won't allow it in mine, but I won't quit hunting with a fellow because his does. I will not tolerate a dog that just grabs another dog for no reason. Most all of my dogs will tree on the other side of the tree rather than next to the other dogs. If the other dogs want the whole tree, mine will usually set down a foot or two back from the tree. I like this cause it stops a lot of fights from starting. However if a dog comes off that tree and grabs mine for no reason, there will be a fight. I don't fault a dog for defending itself. I know in the coonhounds a lot of them have gotten very aggressive and some just plain mean. I even know some guys that want their dog to clean the other dogs off the tree. Have the squirrel dogs gotten that bad yet? What's ya'lls opinion?

The way I see it if someone will hunt a mean dog they would probably breed it. That way they are passing on the trait, I have no use for both. You won't see me hanging around long with either.

Mean is mean.....I will never hunt a mean dog nor will I knowingly hunt with one......I do a fair amount of competition hunting with Dove and never had any real issues, I think partly because of her independence...I saw Dove go up on a tree that another was treeing on to check it....she went up hard and right over the other dogs shoulder...that dog put her in gear....she left like her butt was on fire and treed herself a squirrel....secretly, I was glad cause really I don't care if she ever backs another dog....all is well, cause she mostly doesn't....now she don't care if a hundred back her...I really after some thought, could not blame the other dog, cause of the way Dove went up on it hard and fast...anyway no mean dogs here....

I agreee a mean dog will just make your dog mean. It doesn't know what to expect and it is in fear of another dog jumping it and one of the things that triggers a dog to attack or strike is uncertainity or nervousnous. Any dog that is ill ought never be bred. It is alright with me if a fellow wants to hunt that dog alone but never should be hunted in company.

lol lyle, i know that hurt. i tried to break up a dog fight when i was little, i reached in there and grabbed my dog by the collar to yank him out of there and the redbone he was fighting bit me beteen my index finger and thumb. i was bleeding like a stuck hog, so i ran home to show my daddy, i thought maybe he could stop me from bleeding, all he said is youll be allright lol. i still got teeth marks in my hand 40 years later.lol

thats funny lyle. my ole dog has got a yellow streak right down the middle of her back lol, ive never heard her even growl and if i shoot a coon out and its got a lot of life in him, she want even grab a hold of it all she will do is bay it.lol

i hunted with a walker dog years ago that was scared to death of a live coon, it had to be plum dead before she would ever grab a hold of it. the first night i hunted with that dog, she treed a coon right off the bat, when me and the guy that owned the dog got to the tree i was going to shine the tree, the man told me to turn my light out, so i did, he then turned his light on as dim as it would go even though it was in the dead of winter and he reached in his pocket and pulled out what i thought was a coon squaller and he went to blowing on it and it was a blame harmonica and that coon started looking down on the first couple of notes he played lol. he said a coon will look more often when blowing a harmonica then a squaller lol. that guy was a trip, one night his dogs caught 5 skunks, and he told me a dogs got to have a good nose to catch skunks, and he was serious.lol
