Deal made that day

You have to go off the deal you made the day you bought the dog. Did he give you any type of heath guarantee the dayyou bought the dog. If he did it should be real easy to know if what the dog has is covered. Did the guarantee cover what the dog has? If he did not give any type of health guarantee than you are out of luck and that is part of buying pup with no health guarantee.

I think you baught yourself a pup. Unless the breeder of the pups has a guarantee on the pup that would cover its loss agreed to prior to sell, I don't think it is the breeder's responsability to do anything. I would call the breeder and let him know what happened, but I don't think you would have any right to ask for a refund or a new pup. If they feel the need to make it right with you, they will offer.

I don't see how it would be the breeders fault if the pup dies after you've had it for two months.

Yup... Thats about the way i see it....

do you get your money back if your car gets in a traffic accident??? NO if it breaks down or dosent work, ie the hound wont hunt... but it dieing is the same thing as getting hit at an intersection, sh!$ happens.....

I've only raised one litter of boxer pups... and that is why! Had one we sold cheaper to a guy who "really needed it." Held it for him for 5 weeks past the time he was supposed to pick it up. Told him on the phone the day before he got it, and again the day he picked it up that it had just been wormed and had a set of shots the day before. Warned him not to go home and give him anything else until it was due.
What does he do? Goes straight home and worms the dog with a horse wormer, it's dead that night. Expects a new pup.
That was NOT going to happen! I say he killed the dog, poor pup deserved better then an idiot for an owner.

I typically don't post to whine or complain but this thread is interesting because of a situation that's happening here....and it's one of the reasons I prefer not to sell to pet homes. (I could tell you a few stories about pet home sales but that's not the point of this message).

A pet home bought a pup from one of our litters recently. The day after the family picked up the pup, they took it to their vet for a health check - for their own assurance they were getting a sound, healthy pup. They called me that day to say the pup got a clean bill of health and everything was wonderful.

After a couple months, the honeymoon is apparently over..I receive a frantic email (typed in caps and I really don't like to be yelled at). It said CALL ME ASAP TERRIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE PUPPY. So, I call and find out the pup was back to the vet and put on antiboitics for a bladder infection. I ask a few questions and find out that they took the pup back to the vet because it was peeing 4 times an hour and they believe that is way too much for a young puppy to go to the bathroom.

So a couple weeks pass I hear nothing further until another email comes saying, "puppy is back at the vet - my wife is there now. Call her cell. Things aren't looking good".
Instead of calling the wife at the vet, I call the husband at home to get more info (not wanting to distract the wife while she's with the vet). Husband says, pup is still peeing 4 times an hr. We rushed him to the vet.

I check in with them later than night - vet checks out pup and puts it on another type of antibiotic. (that's 2 office visit charges and 2 meds charges). At that point, I am concerned so ask if bloodwork or any xrays are done. They say no the vet doesn't feel it's that critical - yet. I suggested that if the vet feels that a second type of med is needed on such a young pup, that at a mininum, bloodwork would be in order in my opinion. They disagree.

So, yesterday I get another email....."Pup is slowly getting better but it's going to be a long recovery. Poor Him - no Poor US we are out of paper towels again".

I reply to the email saying if the pup does not meet their expectation and is causing stress on the family, I will take it back - no questions asked. The reply I received was the last one I will take from this person and it was totally uncalled for. He states, "The pup is staying here but I'll let you know if it comes down with leprosy".

Rude, Rude, Rude and totally uncalled for is all I can say.

of course he's not gonna pay you back and make it right. HE ALLREADY HAS YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which, really, is all he's worried about in the first place. 90% of these dog breeders arent worried in the least about you or the puppy after they get your money. And THATS the way it is.

im with HOBO if hes had the pup 2 months then theres nothin faulty about it pups get parvo regardless...pup must have picked it up at his new home..it can stick around in the ground for yrs.....
as for breeders makin money thats BS unless u have 3-4 litters a yr. i have a litter of 6 week old doberman pups and ive got 5 left out of litter of 12..4 went to homes earlier than rest all r doin well....ive had 3 put down in the last week n half b/c of cocolias? (spell check) others r onb meds now...the mother got mastitis when pups where 4 weeks old...every cent i have gotten deposit wise and payment mise has went for wormings..puppy feed....meds..vets..ect..there is no money in this whatso ever...my femlae is gettin spayed in feb this is my first and last litter......too much stress and work involved....esp for me mom of 5 tryin to deal with pups and kids...thats JMO on the situtaion. lol

PS i have a contrct that goes with puppies...... 100 deposit to hold puppies..non refundable as it goes for shots wormings feed ect. u have to take puppy to vet within 2 days of gettin it. if its sick ill refund ur money ONLY with a statement for ur vet and a check by my vet...or u can get a new puppy.

Sheep- What are you talking about?

How can you just make irresponsible statements like that with no conscience aobut it? Craig has had the dog for 2 month. How is it the breeders responsibility? And how do you know whatthe breeder really cares about? And were do you come up with your research statistics? 90% huh? The last time Gallop did a survey of coondog breeders that I wa aware of it was more like 57% of breeders only cared about the money.

Maybe in your back yard, but not in my kennel. I feel responsible for EVERY pup we put on the ground here - even AFTER it goes to it's new owner.
For the most part, we only sell pups to homes that will work them (competition or pleasure). And when we sell to those people, we ask for alot less than we would a pet home. The reason behind this is because if a hunter or show person is going to be spending money registering the dog, paying entry fees and costs related to campaigning the dog, we figure they deserve a break.

Although we've only raised a few litters and can no way be considered a high volume breeder, it doesn't matter - NEITHER make money. Money shouldn't be the ultimiate goal- that is - if you are breeding for the right reasons (which are to continue good lines or to improve the breed).

Okay you got the pup and gave it the shots. But it doesn't sound like you even know what it even disease has. Or are you just saying for instance. Sheep what a dope. how do you expect to ever get a good dog with that attitude.

bought a pup from Lee Smith

she was gaurenteed to run and tree at 12 months or I could exchange her. He also said if anything out of the ordinary should happen he'd replace her. great guy with great dogs. In your case it really does depend on the circumstances, better deal with someone you trust next time.

Apparently the wisdom has yet to settle in.

You always say that people don't like you because you speak your mind, and that you aren't afraid to tell the truth. I really do feel sorry for you sheep. You lie so much you believe yourself.
