I hunt out of a boat just pull up to iland cut'em out no cars no houses.
No hassle they learn to swim and track on water. And fairly flat but a lot of beetle pines down to crawl through.

HUNTING IN KY.

There are some flat to rolling hill country and then hills close to the size of a mountain here in this state . Then you have Western Kentucky that is somewhat flat and northern part of this state some counties are flat. I have hunted both and really like the idea that I have a dog that will go hunting deep enough in them there hills to tree a coon. Trackers are a great tool for anyone to own and are not made just for dogs that hunt out of the country they are a tool that can tell you a lot about your hound not just how far off she/he may be. We use to walk hunt dogs back when I was a boy at home now I/we just pull up to a spot unleash them and let them have at it as most of you do I am sure. I have owned hounds that where hard going dogs that would walk your hind end off by nights end in these hills but would come up treed with a coon. I now own a young female that is a hard going hound with no reverse in her and she will hunt deep enough to get treed in these hills by herself she needs not another dog with her. Some hounds prefer company I have owned both but the ones that will do it alone no matter where you hunt they are the only ones that will be fed here. Some tell me I expect to much from a dog and that I am to hard on one however I will give a hound a chance to prove they are worth feeding.

I just back my truck up to one of my FEEDER BUCKET'S.

Then "OLE SQUEAKY" & I will just set on the tailgate & wait for the PET'S to CRAWL OUT of their NESTING BOX in the same tree as the BUCKET is hanging in. Just kidding, JV & SHEEP.

Almost all of my hunting now, is being done in the HILL'S & BLUFF'S, along the Mississippi River. I hunt this area while the snakes are in HIBERNATION, I HOPE???? This area has more than it's share of Rattler's & Copperhead's. There are not many roads in this area, but there are enough coon to keep it interesting. Also alot of the Coon Hunters, would rather hunt the flat lands to death, rather than to hunt in these hill's & bluff's. I try to save the coon up here in the FLAT LAND, for my warm weather hunting.

When I turn my dog's loose, I already have my Reciever over my shoulder & my walking stick in my hand. I'm ready to follow the dog's. Very seldom do I try to drive closer.

From the truck mostly

Stay near the truck till they get treed, drive around if its possible to get closer from another road. Walk from closest location. This makes it possible to hunt more nights and make more drops and still work 50 + hours per week.
Thanks
Darrin

Sometimes we climb up, sometimes we slide down, and sometimes we drive to them in the pickup. Mostly we just walk...

I've done it...

I've done it several ways. Mostly I walk. I have driven fire roads in national forest and road hunted and get as close as I could then walk. I have ridden a friends mule a couple of times but my luck with mules usually ended up with me trying to makes the eight seconds before bailing off while a dog was chasing it. Usually just walk into the woods and make a big circle back to my truck. Last night hunted fnece rows in Il. so we would make a dump and then drive to the next location. My dog used to hunt with a guy on a four wheeler so he tends to hunt closer than I like at times and once we took a 4 wheeler for my Dad to ride and when Dad stopped the old dog tried to jump on the front for a ride. To me it don't matter how I go as long as I go. I am getting fast now so I like the ride part but the exercise is good.
