Help Please!

2 year old male B&T great bloodline not opening on track or tree yet. Started treeing on hide at 6 months and roll cage. Been on several kills. his problem is he won't hunt what he can't see, how do I correct this? He is not an agressive hound, will back off to other hounds that are aggressive. He is a really tight mouth hound anyway. Help! I want to nite hunt him but I can't if he doesn't open up.

Did you ever catch a coon in a live trap and work him on it. That is coondog training 101. If he is just a silent trailer that is a other thing. If he doesn't do anything and is two that is something else.

try this-

box trap one more coon for him. Wet it down and cut it loose before dark and see if he'll run and locate it. Don't worry if he doesn't open on the track right now. If he does nothing, move on to another dog.

At that age he should get it done if he's been messed with enough in the woods.

First of all, I would like to know how you broke jed from being mean? Usually, a mean dog isnt easily changed.

You need to hunt that dog alone for a while. IMHO

AS FAR AS HIM NOT HUNTIN WHAT HE CANT SEE

SOUNDS TO ME LIKE SOMEONE STARTED HIM OFF ON CAGE COONS AND OVER DID IT. DOGS THAT ARE OVER AND OVER SHOWN CAGE COON SOMETIMES DONT EVER REALIZE THAT THEY IS SUPPOSE TO RUN AND TREE ON SCENT NOT SIGHT!!!!! FIXIN IT I HAVE NO IDEA CEPT REPITITION OVER AND OVER IN THE WOODS, BUT I WOULDNT LET HIM RUN NO MORE COON BY SIGHT..

AS FAR AS NOT TREEIN WITH YOUR MEAN DOG, A BULLET WOULD FIX THE MEAN ONE AND CHOOSE A DOG TO HUNT WITH THAT Y0OU CAN TRUST THAT WONT EAT HIM UP....OR LIKE JOSH SAID HUNT HIM BY HISSELF SO THERE ARE NO WORRIES BOUT IT. MAYBE TURN A COON LOOSE AND NOT LET HIM SEE WHERE IT GOES AND THAT WAY HE HAS A HOT TRACK TO RUN AND IF HE WONT RUN THAT WITHOUT SEEIN THE COON YOU MAY HAVE A DUD ON YOUR HANDS. NO BIGGIE THERE ARE LOTS OF DUDS BELIEVE ME. BYTE THE BULLET AND MOVE ON....

Moonlight-

you need to hook up with an experienced dogman to show you a few things. Your young dog is likely ruined. And one more thing- take it from the word of experience. Jed ain't broke, son. Ole Jed ought to be dead. Take my word for it or learn the old fashioned way. Either way the outcomes the same. Bad.

Now that I have some more information, you just don't have that good of stock right now. One mean one, one that won't hunt that good.

Jed isn't mean. When we first brought him home he had a problem being food aggresive and magic tried to take his food from him and the problem started with that. Jed jumped on him for that and most dogs will jump on another dog for taking their food. Since that happened Magic hasn't wanted anything else to do with Jed. Jed is directly out of Ozark's Screaming Bo and Black Land Ernie. He is my Husband's dog. Anyway I have had Magic since he was 8 weeks old. He was hunted everynight between 6 to 8 Months and was doing really good. My husband had another dog then that striked on track and treed excellent but that night would be Frosty's last hunting trip, He was hit by a car. Well, My husband went though a rough time losing Frosty. We still had Jake a 5 year old B&T although he was very LONG winded he hunted very good and David my husband continued hunting Magic with Jake. Well, Last April Jake got sick and had to be put down. Magic was only 11 months then. David gave up hunting and my dog sat in the pen until he was 18 months old. Then david bought Jed who when we brought him home was already 6 months old and 65 lbs. David started traping coons and bringing them home and we have only had two coons in roll cages. and thats it. Jed started tracking at 7 months and he just turned 11 months will be 1 in October. Well since I filled in everything The question I have is Magic is 27 months old since he wasn't hunted between 18-till now can he still learn to hunt? His sibblings are all nite chs. Except one and he is a little boys pet. So Magic has the blood in him. He is out of TN Black Hawk and Ed able's Indian Outlaw.

"but Jed fit him off the tree before this and my dog just won't have anything thing to do with Jed."

GUESS THIS IS WHY I ASSUMED JED TO BE MEAN!!!!!!!! BUT NOW IM TOTALLY CONFUSED.
GOOD LUCK

I guess you should hunt him by himself and see what happens. A six month old that goes after another dog, has some issues.
