I had a dog that would shut up when you started getting close to her.I didnt like it so I sent her on.I drew out in a hunt with a guy thats dog would shut up on tree.He didnt understand the 2 minute rule.

had an old bluetic do that before when she had a old sow that kept jumping out on her..

last tree she treed on i was close to her and she shut up and came toward me and turned like lassie on tv for me to follow her and i did.

she led me to a large sapling with the coon halfway up the tree,she just sat there and looked at it till i shot it out to her..
that was the only one she did that on.

another night she treed 3 coon in that same woods 20 yrs apart ,it was so foggy by the time i got on top of that hill ,u couldnt see 10ft in frount of u,she would tree 4-6 tree barks on one then go to the other till i got to her,shot 1 out and she'd go to the next,shoot it and to the 3rd she'd go..

by then i'm all turned around ,not knowing where the old ford van was and too foggy to see any stars/lights anywhere,,i put her on a long leash and grabed the 3 coons and told her lets go home,,and she started pulling on the lead,,i didnt have anything to loose if she went the wrong way,would have crossed a trail somewhere,but she took me straight to the van,,she ate good that night..

that old paperless blutic died of old age at my house...when you talked to her she would look u right in the eyes like she knew what you was saying...wish i could find another like her but i think they broke the mold after they made her.

i got a male walker i had on trial when he was 15 months old (i was looking for bluetick) went hunting 20 to 30 minutes and come back never did anything but didn't do anything wrong after a couple months the guy called he wanted 300 i bought for 150 and kept taking him just to get out and one night he ran around pond winding standing on his hind legs i said where is he he ran over to hemlock i said ya right and did not shine tree but said where is he ! he ran around pond again and went back to hemlock again but never said a peep just for the heck of it i shined and twelve feet up was a big coon tied him back and shot coon out dead instant coon dog he is tight on ground when hunted alone but hunting with company that opens he is wide open he is a tree dog bar none he had 5 owners before i got him and is breed the best with no open dogs in 4 gen. on 6 gen. out of 124 dogs 64 grnt 31 nt 29 open if he comes from coon dogs he should make coondog now 9 he has treed hundreds of coon i got a first on him at 8 and should finish him this summer just couldn't do the hunts when he was younger i raised veal and could not go to hunts one mans cull can be another mans treasure true story!!!!

A feller up near the Tn line give me 2 Feist pups. I got there and they were half jack Russel. I kept one. Gave one to a buddy. Both would tree every squirrel you come across. Never bark though. I saw mine whine a few times one night on a possum lol. Coyotes wound up killing him.

It wasnt caused by knocking them out during the off season.I dont knock very many out during off season and i raised her from a pup.

I owned the Grand Nite Champion Finley River Pete dog the last 6 years of his life and he's been gone 35 years and I have yet to see a better dog. Once you got to the tree, that was it, he would never bark another lick. He was a sit down tree dog that sat about 10 feet or so from the tree and you can believe it or not but at least 90% of the time if you would search the tree where Pete was looking you would find the coon. I'm sure some of the old timers like myself that remember him will vouch for that, I know John Monroe saw it hundreds of times before I bought him.

I have one that does it.. I made her extremely gunshy as a pup and she hasn't quite forgiven me for it.. Trees hard until I get there.. Then she shuts up.. Doesn't leave her spot.. She's a sit down tree dog... And normally she is looking at it..

The more she is hunted, then she relaxes and will start treeing again.. but lay her up and she is back to keeping one eye on me and one on the tree when I get in there..

Years ago I had picked a pup outa Beechwood Buck and Lewis' Hardtime Bree. Got a phone call and was told she had been picked up and sold to another man !!!!!! They told me to come pick out another one... I picked another one out mine started treeing squirrels at 4 months old, made Nt Ch at 11 months old and was high scoring english , high scoring english female and 2nd high score overall at the 1988 Automn Oaks Hardtime Poison Patty. The 1st female I had picked out would be at every tree standing straight up belly rubbin toe nails dug in and never made a bark any where ever !!!!!! I was mad as hell in the beginning but was glad that SOMEONE WAS LOOKING OUT FOR ME AND I GOT THE 2ND PICK.......

Years ago I raised two pups from the same litter. By 9 months both could tree their own coon. One would throw a long locate and then if by herself sit down and stare at the coon. I had to stay close to her. I would walk around the woods looking [and listening- she would whine a lot]. and find her. If she had company she was a super tree dog. SOld her to a buddy. She came out of it over the next few months. Made NiteCh. I now hunt grandpups of hers. Never saw it before in the line, never again.

A friend has one that locates, checks around, and locates another bark over and over. He mostly finds him by the Garmin. Then the dog will stay put and tree good. I had a feist just like Ga Dawg. Hunted like a bullet treed alot of squirrels but never heard a tree bark. I had to hunt her in open woods and See her. Wish I had a Garmin back then.

I would try tying the dog back away from the tree and shooting a couple coon out. Don't let it have any fur. Many times this will fire them up and give a bit more desire at the tree. Positive reinforcement for treeing. Maybe try hanging the coon back up out of reach, and stand on the lead so the dog can't jack, and then praise it for treeing.
