Thoughts on breeding a Hammer18 xJet5 grandaughter

One of my hunting buddies gyp will be coming into heat soon,he HAD decided on breeding to Undertaker but given the news of late he has decided not to go forth with this breeding.
He would like to bred close to the Jet line and Hammer18 in the mix would be a +.
The female is pretty tight on track so he would like for the stud to be a quick strike dog(honest), alittle more nose power added to the mix would also be good.
As she is very independent this stud shouldnt be independent, just be a dog that is willing to SHARE track and tree.
Dog also needs to be within 3-4 hour drive from Champaign,IL.

Hey Rob you should look into a dog that Jay Williams has right now.His name is Lightning, He is off of Missouri Blue Rock (which is off of Jet 4) I do believe his mom is out of Pride. He has the old jet blood that is dynamite. The dog has 3 wins toward grand and is only still a Nite champion because the guy who had him only pleasure hunted him. I've hunted with and he is TUFF. I am hunting a nite champion male dog that I consider to be a very tough dog and this Lightning dog treed coons that mine couldn't even smell. Get back with me if you want Jay's number or more info on the dog. You'd have to talk to him but i'm sure he'd probably breed for a pup. Good luck no matter what you do.

The dog his here in mid missouri

My hunting partner has a littermate to Jet 7. He has not been bred much yet but the pups so far are showing to be nice pups. If you know Doug Leigh he can tell you about his pups. Doug raised a litter out of him and a Smokey River gyp. My partner is Jeff Timms. He lives just south of Robinson Ill. That is not that far from you. I think that this would be a good cross. If you are interested let me know and I will give you Jeffs phone number. Willie is quick on strike and tree. Is also independant.

Thanks fellas

some of these dogs have already been on the list or at least had already been given a good report.
Now for a diffrent twist what dog or what diffrent line do you think would be a a good choice for say an outcross or nick cross.
Dan or Dave how well do you think this female would cross on an Utchman bred male?

ROB

PERSONALLY I DONT THINK YOU CAN GO WRONG BREEDIN THAT FEMALE TO A SPANKY BRED MALE. POUNDER WOULD BE A GOOD CHOICE AS HE HAS A LIL JET BLOOD AND SPANKY BLOOD.

AS FAR AS A UTCHMAN MALE, BEEN HEARIN GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE HORNET DOG. NOW I HAVENT HEARD OF ANY JET FEMALES BEIN CROSSED ON HIM BUT HE IS THROWIN LOUD MOUTH TREEDOG DELUXES........ROD ROSE HAS A FEMALE THAT I HUNTED WITH AT 10 MONTHS OLD THAT WAS AS BEAUTIFUL OF A FEMALE AS I HAVE EVER SEEN AND WHAT A MOUTH...... AND A TREEDOG SECOND TO NONE. CLASSY AND LAYUP ABILITY AT 10 MONTHS OLD. HEARD HE SOLD HER OR WAS TRYIN TO SELL HER AT JUST OVER A YR OLD FOR 4000 BUCKS........SO IF YOU BREED TO SOMETHIN LIKE HIM YOU MIGHT BE BARKIN UP THE RIGHT TREE SO TO SPEAK.

ALMOST FORGOT

WARRENS ROCK DOG WOULD BE A FINE CHOICE AS WELL........THAT IS IF YOU LIKE CLASSY TREEDOGS THAT GOT ONE THING IN MIND AND THAT IS GETTIN TREED WITH A COON....IF NOT WHAT YOUR LOOKIN FOR LOOK ELSEWHERE LOL..........PERSONALLY I THINK THERE ARE SEVERAL FINE STUDS OUT THERE THAT DONT GET MUCH NOTERIETY CAUSE THE OWNER IS NOT THE SO CALLED BIG SHOT........

HECK YOU WANT TO DRIVE TO SD YOU CAN COME HUNT WITH MY JAMMER DOG......BUT HE AINT A SOLID CHOP TREEDOG THO....AND NOT LOADED WITH ALL THE TITLES.....YET.....LOL......BUT HE IS ACCURATE AS THEY COME AND CAN HOLD PRESSURE OF ANY KIND.......EVEN A 22 MAG AT 300YDS WITH THE DOGS TUGGIN AT A SQUEALIN COON AND THE DOG HAD NO LEASH ON HIM.........STILL STANDIN ON THE WOOD TREEIN AWAY........HE WILL BE ENROLLED IN THE INCENTIVE PROGRAM AS OF JAN 1ST...............

rob ,i hunt with the ben dog out of warren sturtz rock dog and what i been told ben's littermates and halfmates out of rock are the same .turn them loose and go get them off a tree with the meat in it . as thats what ben does ,he trees coon where the coon are, not where they were,be it 50 yds away or half a mile ,he will be under the meat...i belive if warren could have had the time to put this dog ,ben in the world hunt ,,,i beleave he would have won it ...you turn ben loose and he's got only one thing on his mind and thats to find and tree a coon...

i dont own a hair on these dogs but am getting a pup out of the ben dog as soon as they are weened. and think the rock dog would be worth your drive to breed to..i raise walkers but these rock pups will make you revalue what you are feeding..

my opinion..

Thanks guy's

The gyp isnt mine, her owner is a hard headed young fool,LOL.
I just told him I would do my best to find something like what he wants and as close as possible.
This young guy has the money to travel if he wanted, and he knows a coondog as well. His GrNtCh male has hunted agianst some top hounds and won agianst them as well, some he has hunted agianst Jet6, Whitakers SMokey(won that one)and some others that I cant recall at this time.
How about a list of females bred by Rock, this might help,ya never know.

will send you a e-mail if you want to know more on rock

but he is an outcross jet x diamond jim if you are looking for a jet hammer dog dancer -- pounder--hillbilly--don spice has that breeding close to you. go hunt with some pups off them. if you dont have the time i would look harder at the fellows with the breeding you are interested in that have been around and have been able to follow up a good stud with another one. THAT SURE NARROWS THE LIST.

Utchman and Hammer 18

I donr know of many crosses as this Rob so it wouldnr be fair for me too say. I know some crosses have been made between these two lines. Some succeed some failed. I reckon they are like any other cross lol. I can say this, one time in the dark with Hillbilly prolly would make up the boys mind.

Utchman Hammer XVIII.

Like old country mile says there......it would be a shot in the dark on anything you cross on some make it some don't. It would be best to bred her to Ponder as he just might be able to throw a lot of quality back into that dogs bloodline that is there, but needs waking up........Its beem asleep for a while now.............

The Jet crosses usually cross well with any, and all lines, and has a way of dominating the traits in any dog it ( JET LINE ) is crossed with. I thought the question meant he had a Hammer XVIII. daughter to breed. Some of Mackie's dogs would add to this line or a Rambo bred dog or any other line that could put some volume in the Hammer/ Jet mouths.

jet dogs

I have crossed my levi dog with a female off Hammer 18 and am about fifty fifty on how I like them. Some have made coon dogs but are young yet. They are started and treeing but maybe it was the female that I bred hm to that there was a little something I wasn't happy with. Who knows. I bred him to a jet female and I really like those pups actions so far. I'm not much help but that was my experience.
