what do ya'll do?

When your best dog gets killed and you decide to stay in the game and get you another dog do you hold every dog up to the one you lost and get rid of a bunch of very nice hounds or do you accept the fact that its doubtfull you will find one as nice. Kinda stuck between keepin a new dog or sellin it

Is it possible that with enough hunting and training, the dog you have know can be as great as the one that got killed?

I wouldn't lower your standards because of what your hunting know, but also wouldn't go out and waste a bunch of money buying someone else's problems.

Just my two cents

Justin

The one I have might not be as good as I've ever had , but he's the best I have right now. I'll hang on to him till I find something better. And , I won't quit looking.

i always keep a young dog and push them hard. my goal is to have better dogs coming all the time. I am not a breeder but i breed to have better than what i already have. So while yes this will set you back some, but it should not by any means take you out of the game. Nor should it set you back to where you have nothing to hunt. I pray it does not happen any time soon, but if it did, i would not have to miss a day of hunting.

Just keep trying and you might be suprised what you will own down the road.
I have had the bad luck of having 5 dogs get killed hunting. All were really good ones, but I have had even better since them.
Keep going forward and you might be getting ready to hunt the best yet.

If I would of quit,I wouldn't have the dogs, and memories I have today......

Every hound has his strengths and weaknesses; if you are going to continue to hunt, find you a dog you can "live with", until that next "good one" comes along. Tom

this is the best advice. if you know what a really good dog is i wouldn't worry about letting a bunch of them go trying to measure up. pretty hard to lose a dog you like a bunch and was what you like. don't settle but don't get dumb about it when you find a real nice one either.

Lost the best dawg I ever owned at the start of the season this year. One of my friends told me sometimes you got to lose a good dog to make a great dog.

Had a young dog just starting and had the best season I ever had.
