what would you rather have??

At a year old would you rather have a pup that runs a track good but hasn't treed or one that doesn't track just trees?

I read it . I understand it. Maybe it's even more popular to just have one howl at the moon as up a tree. Would you?

It has been my experience that dogs that are slower to tree make a more accute dog if they ever click over and start.

Me too. But my question is. What ever caused a pup to click over and start treeing before it ever trailed .? This thing has had only 193 looks. I'll now vote just so I can see how many took this thing serious enough to vote on. Now, if they click over and start to treeing at six months old, What causes that? Tree meetoo me too me too me too coo coo coo coo coo koo.And many on hear think a track dog is a MEE TOO DOG. jeeze

I meant howling at the moon , equates to a dog making some noise barking upwards. did he follow a track dog there? How did he get there then if he trees a bunch of coons Or does he tree a bunch of trees ? Never the less I am looking at this like any other poll watcher and trying to make some predictions on how the novice versus the experienced will be voting.

I personally would much rather a dog track before tree had way more accurate dogs that way. My male started running tracks at 8 months with the dogs would find him at the tree not just running all night i was happy the night i took him by himself at 11 months old slammed his first coon in 7 minutes! Today hes one of the most accurate dogs ive ever owned! JMO!

I have a pup that is 11months old and he will strike and trail ahead of older dogs but when he gets to the tree he will not stay on it and the other dogs tree on it it really gets agervating so i guess i would say both tee and track one is not much good with out the other JMO

Most hounds have a trailing or running instinct. Not every hound, however, has a treeing instinct. I prefer a pup that trees before the learn to run. At the same time, I wouldn't give you a dime for a silent trailer or tight mou th dog.

Time in the woods ? time in the woods To get youself a tree yapper.. Messing around getting one to howl at your moon is one thing . Post us a video of how a tree blower upper gets you that excited. Shoot! I take back my vote, I missed the one-year old part and at that point I would rather have a dog that just runs track and doesn't tree. Dogs today are bred to tree so hard, I figure they'll eventually start doing it, but one that starts treeing first might just turn into a slick treeing idiot. My bad

I PICK TREES, BECAUSE YOU CANT FORCE A DOG TO TREE, BUT YOU CAN BREAK A DOG FROM MAKING EMPTY TREES. COONS LIVE IN TREES, NOT ON THE GROUND!

Track or Tree

A wise man told me once , you have to get to the tree before you can tree him so i think the smart answer is trail him then tree him .Treeing is a born instinct, trailing is somthing they have to learn........

At 1 year they better do both, but I have had them that tracked 1st and turned out ok and I have had them that treed 1st and turned out ok. I have also had them not turnout ok both ways. I guess it just depends on the dog.

I've never saw one myself that just treed and would not run some kind of track at a yr old. The one I have now ain't but 9 months old treed 3 coon just boom, boom, boom. Now the last few times I've took her. All she's done is run track. I don't like it personally. I guess instead of hunting her all alone like I've been doing. I'll have to put my old dog with her. Just a time or 2 hopefully will straighten her out. I like to TREE coon not just run em.

If she got three boom boom, she ran a track alright, for some distance unless she is a (tree sniffer) or she tracked them some distance to the tree not saying anything ( silently) . That's the only two choices other than the third which is being lucky as heck picking a tree to tree up. LOL

Neither

At a year old it better be doing both.

Pups start earlier today, as a whole, than I have ever seen before. By a year old, they need to be doing both or I replace them.
