There will come a time when the two groups will need to support one another in order for either to survive. Both trappers and houndsmen represent a small percentage of the outdoor sports and an even smaller percentage of the population in general.....and lets face it, neither group is going to get any positive attention from outside our ranks, and especially the media.
With that being said, has anyone checked with neighboring states to see what their trapping laws are? Might there be something more acceptable for dog people than what you currently have that would still be palatable for the trappers? For instance, here in SD setting body grip traps on 5 gallon pails is not legal, and dryland sets with them have some specific guidelines as well. I don't trap anymore so I haven't kept up with the regs, but we have a lot of trappers around here and have not had problems like what is currently being discussed on this thread.
Just something to consider.
I agree,I think trying todo away with conibears is pushing to hard, theynWILL push back, some SMART restrictions would make more sence to me,jmo and I have had a nice dog killed in a illieagal buket set!
